When it eventually arrives, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will have several game modes available without the need for mods. One of those game modes is called Demolition, which is a nice change from the standard de game mode.
The Basics
Demolition pits two teams against one another as the Terrorists aim to bomb a single objective, while the Counter-Terroists aim to take them out. While this may sound very similar to the standard de mode, there are a number of subtle differences.
There is only one bomb objective as opposed to two. The other big change is that players start out on a weapon progression table just like Arms Race, unlocking a new weapon with every kill at the start of the next round.
If you get more than one kill in around, you will be rewarded with grenades, flashbangs and other goodies to make your task easier. The game mode strikes an interest balance between a standard Counter-Strike game and the fast paced nature of Arms Race.
The Maps
The beta contained a slew of brand new maps for the Demolition game mode, some of which really change the dynamic and feel of the game. While I'm uncertain as to whether these maps will also be available in standard de mode on release, the Demolition map set is a lot smaller, meaning games are resolved quicker and you spend less time waiting to respawn. Let's take a look at the layouts of the new maps.
Lake
If you have played Left 4 Dead 2 then this map should bring back some memories. It's eerily similar to the finale by the swamps as you hold up in the house and wait for the tanks to arrive. It's a great mix of open space and tight combat, making for some exciting battles.
Safehouse
If you've spent considerable time on cs_militia, then you'll feel right at home with this new map. It feels like a cut down, smaller version of the classic map, and once again shows great use of space and confined battles.
Shorttrain
Working title? Most likely not as this is a smaller version of the classic map de_train. Nothing spectacular to report here, it's been a good map for years now, and the shorter version is just as good.
St. Marc
Another map that feels like it was lifted from Left 4 Dead 2. Lots of buildings to seek refuge in, yet things get really heated on the streets. Great map that really changes the feel of Counter-Strike entirely.
Bank
One of the best maps in the package, Bank has lots of open space, multiple entry points to the branch and feels like a full on SWAT assault.
