Gibson - Australia's Best Minecraft Server
If you're at all into Minecraft, you'd understand how multiplayer adds a whole new element of depth to the gameplay. As such, finding a good server with friendly people is critical. Unfortunately, locating such a place is not always easy, with trolls running rampant on the Internet and high griefing levels ruining the game.
This is where Gibson comes in. Gibson is a server based in Western Australia, open for use to members of MMGN. It combines a friendly group of people with an easy-going admin team, to ensure the experience is enhanced, not restricted. Furthermore, the use of mods in the server means some convenient extra features can be used.

Run in Western Australia, Gibson runs on a server setup compiled by our very own Doles. It connects via a high speed fibre optic line, with enough space for twenty players at any given time.
The hardware specifications of the machine feature a dual core processor with hyper-threading, 4gb of RAM and plenty of space for our Minecraft world to grow.

In terms of software, Gibson runs on a Linux operating system and uses the standard server client, but also makes use of some mods. The main mods in use are:
- Minecart Mania
This mod allows gold blocks to be used as boosters for minecarts, and obsidian blocks to stop a minecart dead. This is especially useful as it means you can have a minecart travel along flat land.
Note: Gold and obsidian blocks can be supplied for your tracks if they are made for community use.
- WorldGuard
WorldGuard allows administrators to protect buildings you've made, as a method of preventing griefing. It also allows various physics-based changes to be made, such as the prevention of fire spread or the alteration of block physics.
- Cuboid
Cuboid is a powerful mod which allows our admins to quickly and easily fill areas with different types of blocks. It is especially useful for rectifying the effects of griefing, but is also helpful for clearing land for community projects.
Joining Gibson
In order to play on our server, you'll need to be added on the whitelist. This will only happen once you've become a member of MMGN and gained at least 150 kudos - absolutely no exceptions! It doesn't take long to reach 150, so join in a few of our forum topics and get to know some of our great members!
Once you’ve hit the 150 mark, you’ll need to pop in to our server thread and request to be added to the whitelist. Within a few hours at the very most, you’ll be on the list and ready to play with us.
Rules
As mentioned earlier, the admin team is not that strict with rules. The idea is for your experience to be as fulfilling as possible. As such, we have only a few small reminders for our players:
- No griefing of any kind
This includes, but it is not limited to, the destruction of other players' creations, the stealing of items from other peoples' chests, and generally disrupting the progress of the server.
- Show general courtesy to other users
This is especially relevant with the text-chat feature; the constant use of expletives, capitals, and spam is not welcome.
- Use the land
The amount of empty land ready for building is ridiculous, so there's no need to build right next to someone else's creation and ruin any potential for expansion.
The admins and mods reserve the right to kick/ban people or remove them from the whitelist if these rules are continuously broken. These rules are just common sense; use your head and you'll be fine!
Competitions/Events
Something to be on the lookout for in the near future are competitions, as well as some other less-competitive events. Competitions will be based on building to a theme. Other events could be anything from treasure hunts to scavenger hunts to exploding random things with TNT.
We'll update you on such events weekly.
Issues
There are a few issues currently which we’re aware of, one being the inability for iiNet users to connect to the server properly. The bugs are being worked on as we speak.
If you have any other issues while using the server, the server thread is the best place to go about sorting it out. Please go about bringing issues up in a mature and respectful manner.
