How to install Minecraft Fly mod

Minecraft has a strong support from the modding community with mods available for just about everything. One of the more popular mods is one called the Zombe mod which comes packed with numerous mods that can help enhance your Minecraft experience. The mod that most people are interested in the fly mod because it makes building large structures, travelling, exploring etc a hell of a lot easier and that’s what I’ll focus on within this step by step guide. Like all mods and texture packs available for Minecraft you’ll have to stay on top of your updates as each release of Minecraft becomes available, if this is your first time installing this mod it may seem a little tricky but it’s actually quite easy. We will be messing around with Minecraft.jar file so it may be a good idea to make a backup just in case.

Installing the Fly mod on the PC version of Minecraft

Step 1: Before you get started you will need WinRAR installed if you do not have it already. You can download it from here, select either the 32 or the 64 bit version depending on your operating system.

Step 2: Down load the latest version of Zombe mod Here. (This version will suite Minecraft Beta 1.6.6) For future updates you can find this mod easily enough by Googling the” Zombe mod + Minecraft releaser version”

Step 3: To keep things simple I’ll work off the desktop. Right click on the file you have just downloaded and select extract here.

You should have 3 folders and a readme file available now.

Step 4: Make sure you do not have Minecraft running in the background. We now have to get into the Minecraft folder and work with a couple of files in there, to find it press the windows key + R and enter the following %appdata%/. Alternatively you can open Minecraft and back track to this location through the mods and texture pack loader, remember to close Minecraft after you have opened the Minecraft folder.

Step 5: We need to get into the Minecraft.jar file to do that follow this path, .minecfat folder > bin folder > right click on minecraft.jar and open with WinRAR archiver.

Step 6: Within the Minecraft.jar file you’ll need to delete the META-INF folder.

Step 7: Open the Classes folder from the downloaded Zombe pack. Select all the files from this folder and drag them over to the Minecraft.jar file.

As you are copying these files over WinRAR will display an option box, leave everything as default and press ok. Once all the classes files have copied over you can close the Minecraft.jar file, you are done editing this file now.

Step 8: Go back to .minecraft folder and open the mods folder (if you do not have this folder just create one.) Within the mods folder create a new folder and call it Zombe. Alternatively if you open the Minecraft game right now and then close it a Zombe folder will be created automatically.

Step 9: Open the config folder that was part of the downloaded package. Copy over all the files from that config folder and paste them into the Zombe folder.

Step 10: All the available mods included in the Zombe mod pack are set to be inactive as default so you need to get in there and active the fly mod. Open the config notepad document, the quickest way to find what we need is to use the Windows find function. With the document open press ctrl + F and search for “fly” or you can scroll though the document and find the fly mod section, you may want to have a look around and see what else is available.

Step 11: Under the fly mod section of this document you will see a line of text that says #modFlyEnabled = yes, remove the # from this line and save the document, use ctrl + S or select save from the file drop down box.

Wile you are in here take note of the default buttons needed to activate and control the fly mod while in game, these newly assigned keys will conflict with other functions in game so you will have to make sure you are not doubling up on anything.
Also you may have noticed that you can make adjustments to how fast you can fly, if you wish to be able to use this fly mod on the MMGN (Gibson) Minecraft server the please do not make adjustments here. Excessive speed will add extra unnecessary strain on the server because it has to render much faster than it usually does, stick to this basic rule and we can continue to allow this mod to be used on the server.

Step 12: Almost done, since the fly mod uses some keys that are already allocated to other actions in the game you will need to swap around some keys. Open the Minecraft game and make adjustments to the main keys. As long as you don’t have any conflicting keys you can set this up however you like, feel free to map your keys they way I have if you think that can work for you.

Step 13: Log into the best Aussie Minecraft server and enjoy.

Here it is in action. Check the top left hand corner of the screen this text will pop up when you have the fly mod activated, you can change this text to whatever you like in the config document.

I installed it a few days ago, funnily enough.
Bloody brilliant, I must say. Makes building tonnes more convenient.
It doesn't really take the fun out of Minecraft or anything, but knowing you just built a replica of Chuck Norris' face using fly mod takes the satisfaction away from it, imo.

It is good for traveling, but people set the speed way to high and it lags the server. I only use it now for taking pictures of my work. :)
Flying is awesome for creative people.
Flymod [Shifty]
I managed to install it with minimal instructions.
Anyway, I think it is one of the more effective mods around.
Damn, that looks complex on a Windows box :P
Thanks man! This helped me heaps.
Oh ma gawd, I can fly! [Rage]
