You know you’ve been playing too much MW2 when…
It's been almost a month now since the release of Modern Warfare 2 and it's no surprise that 95% of XBOX Live gamers are playing it online. It's broken sales records around the world and no doubt it's also broken plenty of household records for most hours played gaming.
But when is enough enough? There's the obvious sign when you start dreaming about the game whenever you close your eyes, or when you get so frustrated at campers that you throw your controller down in disgust and curse at your console like as if it was a human. But there are plenty of other signs, too.
Check out our guide below to know when you've been playing too much Modern Warfare 2.
Flash Out!
Your friends get into a bar fight, so you grab a fire extinguisher and smash it on the ground in the middle of everyone, before running away screaming, “FLASH OUT!”
Most MW2 players know the sound of a flash grenade going off in the middle of a gun battle, as well as the accompanied "Flash out!" by one of your teammates.
Damn those campers!
Every time you turn a corner, you quickly glance up at all the possible camper spots (house roofs etc.). You jump back and freak out at the black antenna or green bush you see in the corner of your eye. You think for a split second it’s a sniper.
Seeing as though MW2 is now infected with campers, it's always wise to enter into a large area cautious of your surroundings and ensuring you check all possible camper and sniper areas before coming into full view of their sight.
Killstreaks and Perks
Your mate tells you a really awesome pick-up line. When he asks, “What do you think of that?” you reply with, “It’s great, but I don’t think it will work with my nice aftershave perk.”
Infinity Ward changed up the perk and killstreak system a bit for Modern Warfare 2, allowing you to choose your killstreak rewards, although restricting which rewards you can use with one another.
Care packages
Whenever there is a sale on, you’re always the first one there before opening time. Before the door opens, you tell everyone to watch your back while you capture your wholesale priced underwear, or “care package”.
One of the killstreak rewards included in the game is an extremely convenient and often devastating aid drop that can help out your team with extra ammo or a sentry gun. However, it's often difficult, especially on the smaller maps, to find a nice quiet area to call for the drop, wait for it and then capture it without being killed.
Yallah! Jihad!
Afghanistan and the slums of Rio suddenly seem appealing to you.
Infinity Ward have done a great job visually with this sequel and their ability to actually improve the visuals in the multiplayer offering over the single-player one is quite the achievement. Places like the slums of Brazil and the Afghan towns have a memorable charm to them with their design and colour.
Call-signs and emblems
You stitch a parachute logo onto every piece of clothing you own. Whenever you leave a room, you leave that piece of clothing, just as a reminder as to who just left.
Call-sign titles and emblems have turned into quite the fantastic addition to the multiplayer component, allowing gamers to distinguish themselves from others, aside from their gamertag. Whenever you kill someone, they are harrashed by your call-sign and emblems, reminding them of the pain they've suffered at your trigger.
What an eye!
When you go to the football, you don’t need binoculars to see the players. You just close one eye, crouch and squint.
Blind firing can be effective at close range, but you really need the aid of an effective aiming technique to take out those long-range enemies.
Compromising the enemy!
When you and a mate are both going after the same girl, you smash his phone, or use “counter UAV”, to compromise his mission.
The Counter UAV killstreak reward is an effective tactic at annoying the enemy and blocking their UAV sensor, effectively making them blind out on the battlefield.
