Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Features & Class Analysis

Treyarch revealed Black Ops 2's multiplayer for the first time over night, sending CoD fanboys everywhere into hysterics, and the haters into...well...hysterics as well, for whatever reason. Whether you loved or hated the new trailer it's a little hard not to get swept up in the excitement (or distaste), as there are plenty of interesting tidbits to come out of the official multiplayer reveal. In typical CoD trailer fashion, there are plenty of new features, perks and weapons on display, albeit in as minimal amount of time as is possible: it's basically one big "spot the cool new feature" video clip, seeing as though so many of us already know what the core gameplay is all about.

The trailer detailed eight -- count them, EIGHT -- different loadouts, each with their own unique weapon list and perk setup. A few new mechanics are also on display, as well as a few mysterious additions that we're yet to fully hear about.

Get the Adobe Flash Player to see this video.

The Loadouts

IAMELECTRO

It's important to note how the loadout system will work in Black Ops 2. It seems that custom loadouts can be tweaked by a point-based system, with a primary weapon with three attachments, a secondary weapon with two attachments, six perks, two pieces of equipment, and what appears to be a weapon proficiency perk making up the last slot.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

In this class, it's clear that there are two weapons, each with one attachment.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Most interesting about this loadout is that of the three pieces of equipment, one is a throwing device that can attach to an enemy or surface and electrocute anyone within range, hence the name, "IAMELECTRO".

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

"Revenge" seems like an award.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

8BITWALLBANGER

This is where things get really interesting. In what appears to be a heartbeat-like weapon attachment, this loadout has a fascinating add-on that allows you to see enemies through walls.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

The weapon used is the PDW-57 MMS with attached scope. This attachment will allow you to see enemies through walls and smoke.

And yes, the Dolphin Dive is back...

RUNS4FUNZNGUNZ

This loadout shows an ACOG Red Dot hybrid optic attachment on an LSAT light machine gun with custmizable reticle.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

There's also the "Bloodthirsty" reward that pops up on screen at 0:35 in. We also get our first look at the Guardian Suppressor turret, which knocks down enemies and seems to temporarily disable their weaponry, similar to the EMP grenade in Modern Warfare 3.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

FLYSWATTER

This loadout reveals a few new interesting (and futuristic) weapons. There's a customized Chicom CQB on display, as well as a heat-seeking launcher for those pesky airborne killstreaks.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

The Dragonfly seems quite effective as a little killstreak, although it seems easily destroyed with the use of the Chicom, as seen above.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

The FHJ-18 AA launcher looks sweet in action, and takes little effort to bring down the Dragonfly.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

DOLLARSANDCENTURIONS

This loadout is interesting as it shows a group of three working together to take down oncoming enemies. The AN-94 is on display with a specialized optic that makes enemies easier to target while aiming down the sights, although it quite clearly limits the field of view.

The "Centurions" are the fellows holding the riot shields, which can be embedded into the ground for effective cover.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Lastly for this loadout is a powerful killstreak, the completely controllable A.G.R Drone. It seems like this drone can be controlled at any time, meaning you could potentially leave it and return to it at another time. Whether it would be accessible to enemies while alone is unknown, although it seems likely.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

MOSTLYUSEMEBLADE

This loadout is interesting because it uses only a secondary weapon: a Raging Judge revolver, as well as a knife and six perks. The trailer shows that players will need to switch to the knife to use it, rather than simply press the knife button, which is interesting.

Throwable tomahawks also make a return.

TOOBMONAY

This loadout has two sniper rifles: the primary weapon has a high-power scope:

It's clear that it's a .50 caliber customizer DSR 50, with a later shot showing a customized Ballista.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

SHOTGUNSARK

This loadout reveals a new gadget that we can't quite figure out.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

But that doesn't matter because the shotgun with red laser sight looks pretty devastating. And then, of course, is the standard CoD C4...

E-SPORTS:

Treyarch has teased E-Sports implementation for a while now, and Black Ops 2 seems to be the first realisation of that potential. It's clear that there is a spectator mode, as well as three different teams facing off in a Team Deathmatch-like mode.

Very nice write up Tano!

I must say, I am glad that the game looks visually more impressive than MW and the "art style" looks like a current gen game.

Much more excited for this than MW3 tbh, Treyarch does CoD justice and this may just bring me back!

I didn't really mention much about visuals, but it looks very crisp and clean, and Treyarch seems to have developed the lighting system a bit...or maybe it's just me.

It looks...snazzier?

As for MW3, I am enjoying the shit out of it. I've enjoyed all CoD's. I don't think any really gets to the standard of CoD4 (or even WaW, which is a GROSSLY underrated FPS, but it's hacked to shit now), but they still get the job done for me: they challenge me, anger me, frustrate me, but also entertain me, for days and days!
MOSTLYUSEMEBLADE sounds like homage to famous youtube CoD gameplayer "ONLYUSEmeBLADE"

Going since CoD4 i'm pretty sure (10th'd CoD4 knifing only i think)

Still interesting stuff, Looks like Treyarch once again are adding cool new features
The 10-point system for classes is very interesting. Looks like knifing requires the knife to be equipped as a secondary (finally) so hopefully no more panic knifing. Looks good and somewhat refreshing from what I've seen so far. Graphics and the artistic style are top notch and make an absolute shame of the rubbish job that was Modern Warfare 3.

It seems to take only 2-3 bullets to get a kill now and the guns appear to have very low recoil. Unless they fixed the head glitching to something similar to Halo, then all the game will be is people sitting in spots head glitching the entire game. I hope Treyarch have addressed this.
The jet engine drone swam is pretty intense.

I don't understand the Guardian Suppressor, why can't the stunned players just shoot the gun forward? The person who deployed this waited for like 5 seconds before shooting.

If I'm stunned, I usually prone and shoot in the direction of the stun grenade or something.

Give it a few months after release, You'll be saying it's shit and can't wait for MW4.

WaW still reigns as my all time favorite CoD. So underrated, But it got ALOT of the recognition it deserved after everyone got over MW2 lol
Can't wait for this! Starting to get excited already lol

Although I think for the majority of us that are going to be playing this on xbox/ps3 we may be a bit disappointed with the GFX once we get it in hand as this trailer would have been made on a high end PC for sure. The main difference I notice was the awesome detail in the distance, the current gen of consoles just can't hand that sort of detail and draw distance at the same time.

Also, What's everyone think about the whole having to equip the knife before using it? I kinda like how it is now... and I don't think its every really been a problem with how cod is played... but I guess we'll just have to see how it goes...
It'll be an annoying thing to get use to, But once i get used to it i think i'll love it
I really hope they do some kind of homage to the people that legitimately made it to 15th Prestige. Never have I grinded so much in a game so I'd like to show that off in the sequel. I like how it appeared in MW3 but I felt like it didn't fit in well due to it being Treyarch's thing and all.

Overall, I'm a little excited for this. I still feel the pace of Black Ops 1 even though there's all these new toys.
Agreed so much, Kenni.

We grinded our arses off. If we ever go on a night of dominating domination games (or as we prefer to call it "arguing over who gets to call in their dogs and choppers next") we should totally invite Tano or Ben along
Oh god, they'll barely get a kill in. :P
But they'll never lose (evil)

Kenni said: Oh god, they'll barely get a kill in.

Hey man, I'm, like, "Top 5%" in Domination worldwide.

GreenThumb said: But they'll never lose

As long as I'm scoring at least 2000 a game I'm happy.
You'll be scoring like Charlie Sheen! Winning! [monkey]
I miss the simplicity of COD4

Agreed.

I'm just gonna shoot stuff.
