Don't screen-savers run isolated from the rest of the computer (similar to the secure desktop functionality control provided by Microsoft Windows' "User Account Control")?

I mean, I realize that some screen-savers include online functionality (such as the SETI@Home-enabled screen-savers), but that only applies to some screen-savers, as opposed to all of them.

Heck, even the Department of Defence's computer network utilizes screen-savers, presumably to "hide" the content of one's desktop, as I suggest below, and I find it hard to believe their IT gurus would permit this if it was so easy to utilize for malicious purposes...

These days, screen-savers mostly serve the purpose of screen entertainment and a method in which to "hide" the content on a user's desktop when the screen is locked...

Plus, they're nicer to look at than a blank screen! ;)
