'The Truth Is, It Doesn't Work' - CD Projekt On DRM

We use no DRM and we never will.

This I found VERRRRRRY interesting:

How would “not cracked by XYZ, as there was nothing to crack” sound? A bit silly, wouldn’t it? The illegal scene is pretty much about the game and the glory: who will be the first to deliver the game, who is the best and smartest cracker. The DRM-free version at GOG.com didn’t fit this too well.

The truth is it does not work. It’s as simple as that. The technology which is supposed to protect games against illegal copying is cracked within hours of the release of every single game. So, that’s wasted money and development just to implement it. But that’s not the worst part. DRM, in most cases, requires users to enter serial numbers, validate his or her machine, and be connected to the Internet while they authenticate – and possibly even when they play the game they bought. Quite often the DRM slows the game down, as the wrapper around the executable file is constantly checking if the game is being legally used or not. That is a lot the legal users have to put up with, while the illegal users who downloaded the pirated version have a clean–and way more functional!–game. It seems crazy, but that’s how it really works. So if you are asking me how do I see the future of DRM in games, well, I do not see any future for DRM at all.
So essentially They are damned if they do and damned if they don't?

DRM is just annoying.

They should scrap it all together, especially for movies. It's pretty much just as easy to pirate a movie as it is to download it on iTunes, but if I do that, I'm limited with what I can do with it.

Diablo II and single-player lag is a massive example of DRM ruining everything.
I am just interested in suggestions that it's sort of a reputation thing, that people are driven to crack the DRM to improve their standing among the piracy ranks, which is interesting.
What other motivation would you have Beta? I suppose some of them have sites with ads and donations, and might live off it. But for the most part, you're risking prison time and huge fines, for no real reason other than respect.

Stop wasting money and time on stupid privacy prevention, and work on ways to negate its influence... take back the industry. iTunes went a long way to doing it, Steam does a good job, think outside the box.
I'd like to think Steam combats piracy by having their games fairly priced (for the most part). Same with GoG, but they also go the extra step of releasing the game to your completely DRM free. *_*

Most fair 'pirates' will concede that a fairly priced game will get their purchase. The rest are just tight-arses who pirate stuff because of said tight-arse-ness.

It is. It's a huge credit to you if you can crack a game within a few hours, especially if it's a major release.

Well I knew there was definitely a sense of celebrity about it, but not that it would stem piracy all together by diluting the importance/need of cracking. I wouldn't have thought it would limit the amount a game is pirated. In other words: don't try to stop them and people won't pirate.

I guess it's a matter of wanting something (for free) that you can't have.
