Hey Guys, our last thread just hit 99 pages, so here's the new one!

Day 2: White Mesa Settlement

The night was freezing, I somehow lost my companion over night, Dog. I'm not sure how, but I assume he went looking for food and froze to death or was taken by the creatures at night. It was so cold.
Stomach nearly empty, I decided to start for the base of the mountain.
I started climbing, I must have only been 8 or 10 blocks up when I noticed a small cave.
With only three or four torches in my pack and my shovel wearing thin, I was desperate to find some resources. I ventured in.
That's when I realised it... White Mesa goes down as far as it goes up into the sky. I'm not going down there, I can see something moving. I'll grab this coal and get out.

Today was much better, I slaughtered a pig and was able to cook it with the coal. Also, Dog showed up this afternoon! Maybe things won't be so bad here

I only wish to have a look see what you guys are doing, was wondering with me living in the UK i will definitely have a high ping but as im only snooping about im fine with that but it won't affect you guys will it? Not sure how the whole ping things work, don't want to cause slowdown for others.

It wont slow down, its just the signals you get will be delayed because of distance. It would be like another play has joined. :P

Did you guys build that town you start in? I logged in earlier and damn guys it looks amazing! I later teleported to the creative area and them Pokemon pics must have taken sometime to build! And who lowered the tone and built a penis lol?

Those town look amazing. Kiryuu is responsible for most of it, not to mention those magnificent walls!

And don't forget guys, none of this is hacked, it's all legit and we're playing on ard survival mode, with a mod to make monsters more angry and come in bigger groups.

Yeah no hacks at all on this server, we don't have any warps, you have to walk between the towns, but we made a road and a tunnel to make it safe

I still need to build my place. I noticed kiry molded the walls to go around where i was building it which was nice :3. I don't know how temp-hosting the other server and going on this will treat me so that plot may just be sitting there for a bit longer :P.

E: random question doles, what do you use to host a website on your I.P like that? I've been looking at stuff like Wampserver but the interface(or lack of) has made my attempts at getting my own up and running unsuccesful.

Greencliff is Completely done. If you want to take a house there, go nuts and move on in. Mobs will not spawn during the night 90-something per cent of the time.

CTF bases have been set up and I'm thinking of running a competition on Monday Night Minecraft where you have to get from one to the other without touching proper ground.

If enough people come on, it'd be cool to have town wars too, like CTF across spawn and greencliff. Also, what will happen with MC 1.3, where servers can be turned to hardcore mode? Does that mean if you die you won't be allowed back on the server?

Traditionally hardcore mode means when you die, you lose all your XP and items and have to start at the beginning. This is what Minecraft does by default anyway.

Nice work setting up Greencliff guys, I was worried about walking around there at night before :P

I want to make the large Tundra biome hold the biggest town in the region, all situated around the large Mesa. I will work out directions but you can see it on the map. It's sort of far away, but the land is delectably flat and there are many resources and exciting cave systems under the mountain, I have found 3 dungeons in the immediate area and an abandoned mineshaft.

I set up a wheat and animal farm, so there is enough for people to live. Let's make it awesome!

I don't know if there's a distinction between permadeath and Hardcore in a game, but I think that Minecraft's Hardcore setting may be permadeath.

Permadeath as in, player death results in the player starting from the beginning because everything has been deleted — even the world you were playing in previously.

As far as I know there are three distinctions to be made:

1. Permadeath: complete save file deletion upon death.
2. Hardcore: either increased difficulty, or permadeath (depends what game you're playing)
3. Iron Man: voluntary permadeath (YOU delete your own saves when you die), or playing with extremely restrictive game rules. One that comes to mind is Torchlight's Very Hard Hardcore Iron Man Contest, which said that players had to play Very Hard and Hardcore, use melee weapons only, enter every phase portal/trapdoor, fight every enemy, not use Summon spells, ignore all vendors, and not return to the town ever.
