Surprised that this thread hasn't been created already. What phone, smart phone etc do you use and what are your thoughts on it?
I've been using a Nokia N97 for a while now and I've been very happy with it, especially since I upgraded from an iPhone 3G. I didn't mind the iPhone because it was a good entertainer but I really needed a phone that was a good phone and not just a media device that rings. The N97 is far from perfect but it keeps getting better as the firmware matures.

just thought i'd share, i flashed a new rom and voodoo lag fix and didnt overclock my galaxy s and no more lag and now my phone lasts nearly 3 days =D

i read about that vodoo lag fix.... apparently it dims your phone brightness and lowers a few settings.. and kills a few background apps... though benchmark results aren't as good... i was gonna flash it untill i read this... is that nearly 3 days with moderate or next to no use? just curios about this fix

I don't use the voodoo lagfix itself, the rom I use has a voodoo kernel, so the colourfix isn't implemented (which is good).
Also, the colourfix you are hearing about doesn't dim your phone, it attempts to correct the colours on the phone, but only on 100% brightness.
It definitely looks better but is annoying when changing between brightness settings.

Best apps I have come across are
• Beautiful Widgets (whole slew of awesome time, date and weather widgets)
• Vodafone useage app/widget (only useful for vodafone customers obviously)
• ADW.Launcher (replaces touchwiz)
• Temp+CPU V2 (widget)
• Extended Power Control (widget)
• SBMX (app) - Autodesk Sketchbook Mobile (tiny paint-like app with hints of photoshop)

The ROM I use is called Darky's Ginerbread edition (looks like gingerbread (2.3) and uses some of the same apps and keyboard but is actually Froyo (2.2.1)) and it looks good and runs like nuclear powered train.

Check out the I9000 developers forum on XDA, its got some good stuff.

android blows at teh moment. too fragmented. they can say theyre open source, but they get locked down by companies anyway, so they should have a base spec that every phone needs to meet. until they do im nto getting on the android bandwagon.

Mate, you should not comment on what you have nfi about.
Any if the "locked down"phones can easily by flashed with custom software that makes then as free as a bird with the customisation ability to match.

+5 well said flashed yesterday awesome,love the layout easy too except for figuring out which file i needed lol

Get the widget "widgetsoid"
On there use the apn/data toggle.
Whenever you don't use the internet on your phone turn off wireless and data.
The stop your battery from draining SO hard.

yea wireless is always switched off unless i use it data is always on though ill give that a crack

decide, relax this is a general discussion regarding phones not a battle for the better one, what i do with my phone is upto me, every phone you get is locked there is no such thing as an "unlocked" phone.
back to discussion download Xconstruct awesome game only it comes with 9 levels, i think its a beta because i read that there gonna be developing more lvls if it does well...

im not battling about which phone is better, im battling about the fact that android was supposed to be "open source" but theyve let it be locked down by carriers and manafucters. and i do believe the huawei series of android pohones come unlocked.

I don't understand what you mean by unlocked.

All android phones that I have seen and used, even with so called strict carrier and manufacturer manipulated OS let you do anything on them, anything at all.

I need you to specify what the difference between a locked and unlocked phone is ok.

Everything that I have seen of droid phones so far has been very open sourced.
I have never seen such a buzzing community of modders before!

HTC mobiles have a pretty excellent modding community, but android just goes above and beyond.

Then again, I'm still happy with my telstra country phone. That, and skype, when I need it :D

im meaning unlocked like everything is open. theyre is nothing you cant do with it. i think theyre should be no need for rooting and the like to get superuser. it should already be there for you to do whatever you want to. take the xperia x10, it still hasnt had fully usable custom roms made for it, its been out for over a year.

dude, the only reason they put that rooting function on there is to stop absolute numpties from messing up their phone.
it's a safeguard.
They ARE completely open phones.
