That depends. The portable externals will give you better value GB per dollar, but they probably won't fin in your pocket. I've got an old-ish LaCie one which is about the size of my wallet, only longer.

The larger external will require an external power source, but the portables should be fine.

Well I want it for my tv.. The tv has a USB thing so you can record tv.. Had no idea I could do that till recently .. I have had the tv for over a year X_X

Mine does it too, except with an SD card [Facepalm]

I don't think the TV records at a very high quality, so a cheap 320GB portable drive would probably be enough, plus it's easy to just unplug it and carry it over to the computer to dump it when it gets full.

If you want 1TB or beyond, it'll probably be a hassle to unplug the power everytime you want to dump, although you wouldn't need to do it as often.

500GB hard drives start from $50. You can get an enclosure for it from around $20. That's surely your best option.

I’ve got a Strontium 16GB stick for $23 about 3 months ago, not bad considering it is just a usb flash disk. Hardy, tough and has swivel cap so you can easily rotate it without losing the cap easily. It has thunder writing speed (15MB/s) than the previous generation USB sticks www.strontium.biz/... , and are slightly smaller in size as well. For good value, I would recommend go with Strontium flash drives.
