Dedicated PhysX Cards

I know we have a general discussion about graphics cards but I though a separate one about Dedicated PhysX cards maybe useful.
Adding a dedicated PhysX card is probably something I wouldn't go out of my way to do but since I have a spare 9600gt sitting on my desk doing nothing I decided to install it.

I'm still messing around with this thing trying to see if there's any noticeable performance gains. Just downloaded PhysX drivers from Nvidia then and I'll run 3D mark at some point.

Also just saw this card from nvidia www.evga.com/ which is a combination card that uses a GTX 275 for graphics and a GTS250 dedicated for PhysX.
I wondered that that thing was when you posted the pic just before. Thought you had some ridiculous sound card with a heatsink or something

That card ^ sounds awesome thats a really good idea!

I'm running my 8800GT with physx enabled, does your framerate increase by much if you use a second card for physx?
it means you can use your main card for the graphix and the second one can do all the phsyx.

but no use when its bellow 9600gt i think i read it somewhere but im not sure
only nvidia cards are physx enabled right ?
yes. thats why when your comparing them to ati in 3dmark you have to disable phsyx to be fair.

I tried it on Grid the other day and it was hard to tell if there was a noticeable difference, I was running this game maxed out with just the GTX295.
Just tried out Batman Arkham Asylum and it's one of those games you can really notice the Physx. I ran it maxed out at 1920 x 1080, 16x AA with Physx enabled and set to normal but the game chugged even with a GTX295. I tried again with Physx disabled and the game ran smooth as silk but you do miss out on some of the effects.
Now as some of you might know I sold off my dedicated Physx card but now I'm thinking of either getting another one or a second GTX295, what do you guys thing would be the better move?
Depends on what you want in the future ? DO you want a newer card soon ?
If you can why not just get a GTX 260 or 275 for a dedicated PHYSX card ?

I was originally planning to get the latest 5800 series or 300 series card but I'm not to keen on paying the premium that the early adopters get stung with. So far the GTX295 has ripped though every game I have thrown at it and this is the first time I've seen a game chug with this card. I don't regret selling my 9600 because it wasn't getting enough air in my case because I have no side fans so if I decide to get another dedicated Physx card it will have to have a cooler that blows all the hot air out the back of the case.
Ah yes, Batman AA looks soo nice <33
Surprised at that. Whats one do if they went ATi...? Can I run an Nvidia card as Phyx with an ATi GPU? Or can I use an ATi card the same way :/

EDIT: Ffs this is why I hate NVIDIA
www.ngohq.com/

I don't like to choose brands based on my opinion of a company but they continually push me away with this kind of bullshit while ATi continually pulls me in with exactly the opposite strategies. Its very hard to like NVIDIA when they blatantly overcharge until ATi throws competition their way, yet ATi don't do the same thing when roles are reversed. It seems a lot like ATi actually try to offer value, NVIDIA try to see how much you will pay.

This kind of stuff really pisses me off. Its the same reason I refuse to buy Creative products any more, they don't even pretend to have the customers interests in mind at all.

Only with hacked drivers.
do you think the performance boost would be worth it?

or would the extra few bucks be better...

I thought it wouldn't given my past experiences but with Batman it makes a very noticeable difference. The game will run fine maxed out but once the Physx is turned on it will drop the frame rate. With the Physx turned off there's quite a lot you miss out on this is very noticeable during the benchmark.
buy me a 5870 and i will give ya the 9600 back

E~ nvm just saw the gallery... rich barstard.

That 9600 runs to hot in my case and this 250 actually controls it;s own fan speed rather that going full blast like the 9600 did.

Also I'm not rich that's for sure.
Whatever you say richey...

Benchmarks please xD
You need a game that uses PhysX to notice a real difference, otherwise it's just a SLIGHT performance boost with game physics.

I need a newer version of 3D mark Vantage I think I'm getting dodgy scores.
Guber... Why do you have to have such god like things? D8

Because he is a god.
Mirrors Edge looks really good with a Physx card, also I've notice "Physx > CPU" is written in the top left hard corner of the screen when the Physx card is being used, well on Batman and Mirrors Edge at least.
