I know we have a general discussion about graphics cards but I though a separate one about Dedicated PhysX cards maybe useful.
Adding a dedicated PhysX card is probably something I wouldn't go out of my way to do but since I have a spare 9600gt sitting on my desk doing nothing I decided to install it.

I'm still messing around with this thing trying to see if there's any noticeable performance gains. Just downloaded PhysX drivers from Nvidia then and I'll run 3D mark at some point.

Also just saw this card from nvidia www.evga.com/ which is a combination card that uses a GTX 275 for graphics and a GTS250 dedicated for PhysX.

9600gt cant do physx for ****, trust me i tried :P

One window in mirrors edge and its gone. (sadly my only physx game)

9800gt minimum.

Even the 9800GT shows its limits, sadly it's one of the more common single slot cards on the market.

yeah, unless you get a 460 and water cool it. low heat/power consumption but heaps of grunt.

That would be the ideal setup but the cost involved is a little much.

Dunno why the gts250 is a dual slot. you would think after revising the same card 3 times they would have made it run cooler :P

Ren, do not bag the 9600gt, just because the single card you got sucked.
The one that I had was bleeding awesome.
Would easily make as good a physx as a 9800gt.

Love to see them make a single slot 460 :)

I could do it with a waterblock but I do not want it in my loop, nor do I wish to pay $100 on a card that crap for the block. Or having it further heat my water!

With what's been released since this discussion was started there's a lot of options for dedicated PhysX cards. The lower end of the 400 and 500 series and even the second hard/surplus stuff from the 200 series. What's a good match for 2 x GTX480s?
I used to have a 9800GT but it choked my main cards on some games. Shame because it was a single slot card so it was perfect.

Any dual slot can work if you water cool it and add a single slot PCI bracket like this www.shopbot.com.au/...

Been having a look around for that illusive single slot card that I could use for dedicated PhysX. Turns out the GTX430 will be enough to net some gains. Price is very good as well www.ebay.com.au/...

I think the 660's have 2GB of VRAM (560's only have 1GB), making SLi an issue.

It used to be you had to have exact matching cards but I heard with the later model cards you can still go SLI but the lower card will become the standard when linked up with more powerful card getting detuned to suit. (CBF fact checking that) If it was me I'd get the same model card and match the cards up properly. Even if a newer series has come out there will still be stock available somewhere.

Now this 630 could work well as a dedicated PhysX card www.pccasegear.com/... Been a while since I've seen a decent single slot card.

Might just do that, games run a hell of a lot better now since i upgraded the CPU but i'm running physx from the card only, might find a second one when I get a bit more mula

Very tempted to get this GT630 for dedicated PhysX, I'm still waiting on the return of my faulty GTX 480 and I think I'll be waiting much longer. In the mean time I have no SLI configuration which means i can't run 3 screens. I f I grab this card I could run my 3rd screen off that in desktop mode until I get my 480 back and when I do I'll be set for a good SLI + dedicated PhysX configuration that actually all fits in my case.

They both have the same ammount of Cuda cores (which is where the physx processing is done), so I'd go the 620 to save the few extra $$'s.
