Dedicated PhysX Cards

I know we have a general discussion about graphics cards but I though a separate one about Dedicated PhysX cards maybe useful.
Adding a dedicated PhysX card is probably something I wouldn't go out of my way to do but since I have a spare 9600gt sitting on my desk doing nothing I decided to install it.

I'm still messing around with this thing trying to see if there's any noticeable performance gains. Just downloaded PhysX drivers from Nvidia then and I'll run 3D mark at some point.

Also just saw this card from nvidia www.evga.com/ which is a combination card that uses a GTX 275 for graphics and a GTS250 dedicated for PhysX.

A 8800 or 9800GT is about the minimum for a dedicated PhysX card, anything less and it will be holding back the performance of your 480.

did i hear 480? *_*

Someone loves their card :P

When I installed the 9800GT into my system it made a massive difference in games like Batman. At high resolutions PhysX just sucker punches your main graphic cards.

i use 90% of my GTX 260 in just cause 2 :P
who out there is thinking that these new gts 450's look like perfect physx cards [Shifty]

yea i was thinking about it but my 260 is the same performance and half the price [Derp]
depends where you pick a 260 up from.
you can get a second hand 260 for somewhere near $100, maybe a bit more maybe less, or a brand new 450 for $150 that comes with 2 or 3 years warranty...

Yeah, I hope they release a nice slim single slot version.

Adding another 460 in SLI will basically give you something a little more powerful than a GTX480, just make sure your motherboard supports SLI and you have decent cooling in your case.

friend of mine has 460 sli; temps arent too bad only hes got them sitting in a Haf X which probably help them temps stay low
I should update that OP, a GTX295 + 9600GT :*O
EVGA are bringing out a single slot 430 ^_^ not sure if that's as good as an 8800/9800 but I'll check.

My 9800GT struggles with a couple of games in surround mode :( Better than not having one though.
I've been running a 9800gt as a dedicated PhysX card for a while now and try to play all my games in Nividia Surround mode, but the problem I have now is the games that support PhysX(that I have) don't work well in Surround mode. both Mirrors edge and Metro2033 wont load up in the high resolution.
The only games it's any use to me now is Shift and Zombie Driver.
NFS Shift has PhysX?

What about Mafia 2?

Yeah the GPU+PhysX logo comes up when you have it enabled. Maybe the game uses it for fog or something like that. I should go and get Mafia...next time it's on sale I will [Derp]

Yeah I'm surprised an Indie game uses PhysX.
I'm not sure what to do for a PhysX card. I'm considering a 460 but Id rather a single slot. Reckon that GT440 single slotter would do the job?

I've been eyballing that one since you first showed me it. Not that many good single slot cards out there these days.
What ever happened to those Ageia PhysX cards which came out in 2006?
Would it still be supported today, or would you have better performance from a modern low end card like a 9600GT?

They failed in the arse and no one supported them.
