EEE PC - No network connection

1244 Views 18 Posts Locked PC Hardware
I have an Asus EEE PC 4G (Linux version), and today was trying to get it connected to our wireless network. It has connected before, but now won't.

When I click details I get no errors, but the log shows:

Any ideas on how to get it working?

well isn't that great now?
would you like a medal cause that was in no way contributing at all

@insectoid - have you tried re-installing any wireless drivers it might have had?
Yeah, I've done a full system restore. I've been reading around and apparently there's a few people who have had the exact same problem, but haven't been able to fix it unfortunatley.

It shows that it can find the connection, shows a high signal, but just won't connect. Strange...

Helpful.
Damn, I've never had that problem with my Eee PC. Mine is the same as yours.

Do you have your connection set to Automatic?

Most of the time when I boot up the Eee, it has a little bubble saying "Wireless network detected" and if I try to connect to my network manually at this point, it won't work. I have to wait for it to do it automatically
The DHCP server is not giving an IP address to your eeePC. I found that going into wireless network settings and removing the network configuration then scanning and adding it once again fixes the problem. You may also be typing the password in wrong, try opening Open Office and typing the password into the blank page see if you you are typing something wrong. Do NOT copy and paste the password from Open Office to the password field as it does not copy to clipboard correctly.
is it connecting to the internet, just not the network?
are you running xp on the other pc's on the network? if so, just run the network setup again and that might help. failing that, are they all on the same workgroup (dont know if linux does that)?
and lastly, is sharing setup on all of the folders/drives you want to share on the networked pc's?
Because you were saying that it can read the wireless, just cant connect tells me that it is a software issue and it is probably windows not letting you connect.
if you are using vista, the sharing folders/drives applies too

It won't work automatically or manually.

I've removed all the settings and scanned and added them again so many times I've lost count, I've also restored the whole system to factory defaults and still nothing.

It's definitely not an issue with the password either.

Not connecting to either.

Didn't help

It's not a sharing issue, it just won't connect to the wireless anymore.

Thanks' for all your help guys/gals!

did it used to connect?
go into the wireless router and put forward your eepc's ip.

does your wireless router have a password and for some reason it isnt initialising the windows to enter your password?

reboot the wireless router *obviously you have already done this*

do you have other things connected wirelessly? if so, do they still work?
Ha! Like magic it works!

No idea what has changed, but I tried just one last time to connect, and magically it worked! Perhaps it sensed that if it didn't start working soon it was going back to Asus...

sometimes these things just work out as a mystery hey. it is soooo annoying.
reliability just goes out the window when that happens.
but glad you got it back up insty (thumbs up)

Already made the call
When you read the actual problem, you should notice it points itself out. Failed DHCP lease.
That's one of the things I don't like about linux. It just comes up with unexplained problems with the simplest of things, and it takes you ages trying to figure out what's wrong. Windows has problems too, I'll admit, but not with such simple matters.
