Most of you will probably remember my old rig dubbed "Fail-Box".

currently it is
Cpu: 2.8Ghz Ht Pentium 4 800Mhz-Fsb.
Gpu: Sparkle GeForce 6200 256mb
Ram: 2x1GB DDR400
Hdd: 200Gb Samsung, 40gb Segate baracuda
Mobo: Albatron PX865PEC Pro V2.0
Psu: 500W Antec
Sound: Sound Blaster 5.1 VX
Case: CoolerMaster Gladiator 600

Well its about to receive an overhaul.

Cpu: 3ghz AMD Athlon X2 6000+
Gpu: ECS 9600gt 2GB
Ram: Kingston 4x1GB DDR2-667
Hdd: 200Gb Samsung, 40gb Segate baracuda
Mobo: ASUS M3N78
Psu: Vantec ION2+ N Series 600W
Sound: Sound Blaster 5.1 VX
Case: CoolerMaster Gladiator 600

I'm going to stick my current PSU and fan controller into it.

I will be posting pics etc of how i go. the parts will be on their way soon enough.

E~ anyone have a dual core AMD, Sata dvd drive, or some DDR2 ram? looking to get this done so i dont have to fight her to pull it apart again
I have an amd x2 6000+ i want to sell
*purchased*
Now i just need another ~1gb of ram, pref two DDR2 512mb sticks, and a SATA DVD drive.
why not just 1gb sticks .. ?
i prefer to even them out as i already got two 512mb sticks. less compatibility issues you see.
imo, if you want to upgrage in future would be easier, thats my opinion
the thing is its her pc so i will just replace the entire thing when the time comes.

I'm also not wanting to spend over $150 on this, i've already spent $90.

And as i said... less compatibility issues.

E~ ok i talked to a mate and he said for photoshop 4gb would be better since i will be running W7 64bit on it.

So now im looking for 4x1gb or 2x2gb DDR2.

I have also bought a ide to sata converter so i can use the IDE dvd drive.

Spent $95. $55 left to buy ram

E~ Just found some on ebay with 2 days left for a decant price. i will watch and bid then come back to yall.

EE~ ok i have purchased all the parts and the CPU arrived today! Thanks MyFragian!
I would totally only run Photoshop 7 on that dude. If you move into any of the CS versions it will chug like hell and Photoshop 7 definetely has nearly everything the newest one has. Theres probably no reason at all to upgrade to CS1/2/3/4 they'll slow the system down and add features only advanced users will use.

PS7 was a good version, the only one I've found thats really topped it is CS4, if not CS4, CS2. Avoid CS1 and 2 completely.
i have a mate with pretty much the same specs (just a 8800gt) and he can run CS4 quite smoothly.

And from reports apparently CS4 runs smoother on 64bit W7 then 32 and im installing 64 on this system.

E~ im going to be using the old components to build myself a server. it is gonna be the rokzor

EE~ the 4GB of kingston ram just turned up. is shinneh.

Also the IDE to Sata adaptor. hopefully the rest of the system shows up today/tomorow so i can get it done this weekend.
I got your stick of DDR2 ram i got 512mb x2 and 1x 1gb i think
change "your" to "her" then its slightly more accurate as this is my sisters rig

UPDATE
Well i have all the parts right here but it looks like it wont be completed for a few weeks. because guess what... sisters are bloody lazy creatures. i asked her 2 weeks ago to copy her files to the second hdd before all the parts arrive so i can get it all done before the holidays are over... and guess what... she hasn't touched it once.

So i may aswell just make myself a lan box at this rate.

Or a media centre even.

/Rant
Do it! make a LAN box
I cant... the case i got is to small to hold the mobo!
stupid gay massive mobos
Why not just run GIMP? Has pretty much all the normal expected features, runs faster and on pretty much anything.
Lo, do you have a spare drive, you could probably just have on hardrive plugged in with windows 7 on it and then just tell her, "or your oold files are here. Go."

Genius? I think so
I only got a one of those old hdd that make the whining noise when it spins, and i so cbf sitting there listening to it.

Dilligaf. She can do a lot more with CS4.

E~ ok i finally got it off her and did it myself. i have put it together and will start loading windows 7 soon.

Also made a server out of what i had left over.

EE~ PICS!!!!

Fail-box

The IDE/Sata adaptor for the dvd drive is faulty. so another few weeks before i get this up and going.

And my server! Rubbish Can!
Making a computer out of scraps can sometimes give you dramas.
The strange thing is... Rubbish Can is working perfectly... Fail-Box isnt

Anyone got a spare sata dvd drive?

Only an IDE drive and a broken BD drive.
How much were you willing to sell that BD drive for anyway?

E~ Ok i bought a little sata-ide adaptor at work today (gave up on the Chinese bs) and yay it works. now im playing around with hybrid SLI to see if i can get it working

Windows 7 does not support Hybrid SLI. so i set the onboard to a dedi physx card xD
I heard you could use the onboard graphics for Physx but never got around to researching it.
Took me 30 minutes to not get hybrid sli working. it took me 30 seconds to get physx working on the onboard

Wont be able to benchmark it because the sister is all moody etc.
