I'm assuming you mean on the 16x interface?
Its the same physical plug, but 2.0 moves data faster, its all in the protocols shared by the devices and the speed of the mobo. Its like SATA and SATA II, they have the same plug, but SATA II is twice as fast.

16x isn't the lane speed, it means the port has 16 PCIe lanes.

Do graphics cards just work as hard as they say? Like is my nVidia 8500GT at 512 MB more powerful than a sub $100 1GB elcheapo card? I thought I remeber someone saying there is a 1GB graphics card for $70 or something.

the size of the Vram isnt relative to the performance. but it helps in newer games and GTA4.

It depends what that card is.

The 8500GT is pretty old now.

just remember guys. 9 series is a rebranded 8 literally. I'm not saying nvidia just stuck the new name on the same card.

the different dye performs almost the same.

Yeah keeping track of what of what Nvidia card is equal to in their last series can be a pain. I think my GTS250 is slightly tweaked 9800gt.

From memory the 5970 is dual 5870 cores with 5850 clock speeds.
