Hard Drive not detected error

Having a bit of a drama with my PC at them moment When I boot up I get stuck on the BIOS intro screen then I get a HD not detected message. I've tried swapping around sata plugs and I've removed my main drive and placed in an external case and plugged it into my laptop to retrieve some files and it worked fine.
Depending on which sata plug I use sometimes I can get into the BIOS.
Mother board dead?

Motherboard could be faulty. What happens if you try other Sata ports on the mobo?

I eventually get the same error, some take longer than others.

Guyver, this might sound like a shameless plug, but did you try that guide I put up yesterday? If you can't mount the HDD that way, then it is most likely an issue with the mobo or sata. It only takes 15 mins

Ok here's a strange one for you....I noticed an odd hissing/buzzing sound coming from my UV light kit so I removed that and plugged in my main drive, and both optical drives and BAM! it fires up. But when I plug in my second 500gb HD(my media drive) I get the no hard disc error message again.
Right now I'm running a memory test(takes a while) to see if anything else is damaged.

Everything is working as per usual now, I think for some reason it doesn't want a HD plugged into the sata 2 slot.

I think that was the issue, I had a closer inspection of the light kit and one of the bulbs seems to be damaged. It's now in the bin and everything works
