Project Ninja - Cosmos Side Window Mod

10068 Views 204 Posts PC Hardware
...yeah it's all i could come up with at short notice

Well my order from PCCG arrived

The goal is to have a high performance PC that's virtually silent, so I ordered silent fans, vibration dampening items and if that doesn't do the trice I'll get some sound deadening material. (you can by sheets of it from Jcar). I ordered 5x nexus silent white fans, PSU vibration dampener, white cold cathode kit, BitsPower drive bay reservoir and white tubing. I also wanted the optional Cosmos S clear window to replace the meshed side panel that comes with the case but PCCG was sold out I'll be transferring all the hardware from my HAF932 to the Cosmos S.
So since the clear side panel was out of stock I decided to make my own and i thought some of you maybe interested in seeing how easy it is to do.

That hurt

I did a little more cable management but I'm still not happy with it, this case is not the best for cable management.

I added a LCD temp display above my Vantec multi display because I couldn't get the Vantec one to open properly because the Cosmos has arced drive bay covers.

I could have just removed the Vantec Multi but I used the card reader a lot and there's a couple of fans connected to it. I'm very tempted to get the NZXT century.

I have 3 Nexus white LED fans coming soon which will go at the top of the case, should make the top of the case look nice and at the same time create a push-pull system for my radiator.

My one rule when building a computer is ALWAYS place the sound card as far away from the gpu as possible.
Lulz yeah I do that too have so many PCI slots that are effectively completely useless you might as well choose the bottom one

this would look sweet in the front.

I always drool on that one
Yeah I ****ing want that I liked the blue one but didn't really want blue letters as it would break my colour theme and stand out, that one would just blend and look sex!
yeah, that would look good in almost any case.
hey guyver i gots a mad idea TRADE TIME. myfrag.com.au/
i bet Guyver could make that look awesome.

Anyone remember rat rig?

I spent more time building that thing than actually using it lol

Well thats your fault now isn't it

I need to fill my old "liberation" case so i can work on my modding/cable management skillz. i dont mind putting money into it. its a learning experience.
This case comes with a stupid power connector that goes onto the mother board so it has constant power for the touch sensitive button.
Obviously I'll need a sleeves and heat wrap but what equipment would I need to get this look?

shoelaces 0.0 (joke)

You will need one of those pliers/tweezers like tools that allow you to remove the pins from the bit of plastic. and some masking tape so you can mark which one is which.

Ive seen a build log of someone doing this somewhere...

E~ BANG! found some

That's good kit, the only down side is if I ever decide I need more power and have to get another PSU. Oh why can't there be a pre-sleeved PSU?
That mod log even has sata cables!

All you need Guyver

Heat Shrinks

2:1
3.0 - will just fit over clean cut with a little coaxing and will work fine with the standard pet stuff (my opinion is that it is perfect for standard PET as when it is shrunk it gives a great fit)
5.0 - is good for CCPT as it will shrink just enough to get a grip - will also work fine with fan cables due to the extra size needed for the three cables.
6.0 - would be useful for jobs where you are sleeving multiple power cables together (ie pump cables) or if you were doing the 24 pin in groups of 2 (using standard PET).
10.0 - does not fit with SATA cables - would suit multiple cables like a sata power cable that was sleeved as one cable and not individually.
16.0 - is too big for SATA cables and does not quite shrink enough to get a grip on the sleeve. You could use it for PCIe transitions from grouped to individually sleeved.
20.0 - this is good for using on the 24pin when they are bunched in one group as it shrinks well and gets a good grip on the cables.

3:1
9mm - not big enough for sata and too big for single cable runs - would suit multiple cables like a sata power cable that was sleeved as one cable and not individually.
18mm - Good for sata data cables as it shrinks enough to grab the cable - also good for bigger cable runs that will not fit in the 9mm sleeve.

Sleeving

1/8" (3mm) - great for single power cables (24, 8, PCIE etc) as well as fan cables due to it being slightly bigger than standard PET therefore it barely shows the colours through at all.
1/4" (6mm) - good for SATA data cables as it is a nice snug fit and doesn't distort when bending the cable...however as it is a little stretched it can show the underneath colour through slightly when a flash is used.
3/8" (10mm) - good also for Sata data cables as it is a little looser on the cable so manages to hide the colours beneath better than the 6mm however tends to change shape when bending the cable back on itself (however one should be able to organise better cable management that doesn’t require this so it should be a mute point.)
1/2" (13mm) - could be used for groups of cables up to 6 per grouping (ie PCIE, SATA power cable etc) where you do not want them sleeved individually.
3/4" (19mm) - Same as above but can accommodate more cables (ie 8pin PCIE)
1" (25mm) - could be used to resleeve a 24pin cable but might get a little stretched in comparison to 1 1/4"
1 1/4" (32mm) - same as 1" but would be better suited due to its bigger diameter - meaning it will be less likely to show cables colours through as it will not need to stretch as much

Here is the same guys Cosmos S build.

E~ do we have a cable sleeving thread...
Woot sleeving available in white www.gammods.com.au/ from a local retailer and I've bought from them before. Good service
I think I'll start with small stuff like the motherboard power connectors that are actually extensions, that way I can make the change to another PSU without regretting wasting so much time on it.
Little update, I just got 3 Nexus silent white LED fans for the top of my Cosmos. Looks more interesting up top and now I have a push-pull system for my radiator. Thanks Rook

Holy **** express is quick...

Do you like the brightness?

Also just word to other people, the fan led's aren't really a light blue colour, it's just guyver's shitty cam adjusting the white.

It's literally white (:
