Hey guys
i'm going to kick of this discussion about what speakers do you have for your computer/home theatre, and what ones do you want?

What kind of sound card do you use? or do you use onboard?

direct? coax? optical?

I personally have some z5500's and i think that they fairly rock.
but then, they are in a small room so any speakers would sound good in there.

for fps games though i tend to use headphones

I was gonn get the Z5500's but decided that they were a bit expensive. Im still using my Z2300's they sound pretty good.

so many places have them for so much.
they sound really good but i am wondering if they were worth it.
i mean, i rarely ever crank them enough to justify their max power output.
the sub sounds terrific in my pc room tho

I'm using X-530 Logitech 5.1 surround sound which do a good job of filling a small room with noise. I wouldn't mind something better but since these are doing the job there's no point upgrading.

i cant wait to get into my new house in like 6 months when its built.
all the speakers are going to be wall mounted so it will be totally sweet.

im using 2.1 sony with pioneer amp running on board. i usually use my sennheiser hd555's for music and gaming though.

headphones are so much better than speakers, but my ears stick out too far so they get sore.
i cant wear a pair of headphones for longer than an hour (usually less) before they start to really hurt.
I am yet to find a pair of headphones that feel truley comfortable on my ears.
i have even tried on some $350 pair that were awesome and light, so i could probably wear them for a good 2 hours, but the hard speaker still presses on my ear.

my ears suck

I run a 2.1 system because I have nowhere to put any rear speakers so 5.1 is out (which is funny considering I have a Creative X-Fi Gamer sound card). So I thought bugger buying computer speakers that rely on a subwoofer for bass, I got a proper stereo with 15cm midbass cones and twin tweeters so I get a full sound range:

Awesome system its done me for years now. Properly loud with no distortion as you would expect having speakers of that size either side of your head

i used to have some sony ones like that
only reason i got the z5500's was because my sonys started to make some popping noises even when no sound was playing through them.

im glad to be rid of them tho, they took up so much room its not funny.
i much prefer the sleekness of the small desktop speakers

I bought that exact system before the one above, it was broken when I got it home though so I exchanged it for the Panasonic which looked crapper but cost less and performed better. I think thats the last chance I gave Sony, now I'm a full time Sony hater

ahahaha
the sony's lasted me through many different late teens early 20's party houses.
almost a full year went by with them being turned on max every weekend for hours.
i cant believe they lasted me as long as they did.

****ing Creative! They refused to make drivers for that card for Vista because they wanted people to upgrade. Some dude made drivers so people could actually keep it (sadly found that out AFTER I bought an X-Fi) and they threatened him with legal action. That put me off Creative, I will never buy anything of theirs again. No more money to pricks!

I agree, Creative sucks hard. I'd get something else if I was building a new rig.

I think most onboard sounds would do the job anyway. The only problem I had with my particular boards onboard sound was I couldn't play CSS and listen to music at the same time... it all went tits up and sound dropped in and out. It doesn't happen with all computers with onboard sound, but I don't know how the hell you're supposed to find out beforehand

Yeah pretty much but I think you'll find Logitech has overtaken their price to performance ratio by now with sheer volume of production..
