Telstra in $A11 Billion National Broadband Deal

Looks like double win here if this goes through, Telstra wont have a massive grip on our Internet and we'll get faster speeds with the new network.
Rofl only 11.5b? What happened to 43? I was under the impression everyone said it can't be done for 43 so how can it be done for 11 :s

It's good news either way, this should improve out gaming greatly as finally everyones ping will be more on par with each others. Games are awfully laggy and have terrible hit registration these days, it could be because of our Internet not being as good as most?

I'm sure Telstra has cut some deal that will retain their upper hand, most likely getting their part of the NBN cheaper. They probably have had to come to terms with them losing control being inevitable at some point so this was their best move in some way to keep ahead.

I hope this lowers prices all round. I'm on telstra's new fibre network and I'm paying $110 per month.
Also skart, I think it's cheaper now because telstra already owns the copper in the ground
But isn't that going to be overhauled? I didn't think copper would be good enough :s

Or you mean its cheaper to lay the cables where the copper was?
yeah they will be laying fibre where fibre is currently not. at starts the pricing will be on par with dsl pricing, and then when more users get moved across the cheaper and more download limit you will get. the good thing about telscum been the main provissioner means there customers will get migrated and prices will start coming down quicker as they have most probably the largest client base
and on another note current prices that node are charging to tassie users that have had there fibre layed for nbn

www.internode.on.net/...

if they are the prices 100mb 60gb plan be enough for me as currently on 1500 40gb, dam cheap developers in new housing estates
From what I know, if you are lucky enough to get a fibre connection, you don't need an active phone line connection to get the internet!
so in essence you get a naked service, with the added option of getting a VOIP service too.
So when they say $80 for 100mbps and 60gb then that is all that you need to pay to get the internet with them, no additional phone line rentals at all.
yeah atm they are waiving the installation fee i believe. yeah i have some cisco ip phones that i use at home atm also so be awesome with 100mbps as i am sure i wont need to spend hours playing with qos as there be enough bandwidth for games and phone calls

only reason to live in tassie atm :P

“Telstra obviously sees commercial benefits in the NBN and this deal will be good for the company”

No doubt, now they can charge whatever they want, on long ass contracts and not worry about competition. So now they make the speed nice and fast, then slow it down again with their stupid Filter... -_-
By time this is available my Telstra contract will be finished -_-

As soon as my Optus contract is finished I'm jumping on the iiNet bandwagon. ADSL2+ for half that price, 3 times the quota, plus unmetered Xbox content and on 3FL servers, and of course the 3FL free zone.
no Pact I don't think you understand.

Telstra are being paid $9bn for the USE of their existing pits and layouts, not their equipment or copper.
Makes no sense to double up on everything.

Basically, Telstra will have next to no say in anything NBN, they just laid out the holes in which the NBN will run.
I'll not switch to 100mbs until its on par price and quota wise. Pretty much nothing I have uses anywhere near the 20mbit I have now so until heaps of others get it, I'm not going to see a huge benefit.

I'm more excited about the WA people here hopefully having better than ****ing ADSL1 so I can finally shoot where they are on my screen and actually hit them!

So yes, the best thing about the NBN, shooting Doyl and Kiah.
Wow the world is ****ed. $A11 Billion for internet and only $A4 Billion for the hospital reforms. Yeah, cause the internet's way more important than keeping people alive...

exactly what I thought! But no! Because i'm on telstra fibre, they made me pay for landline rental too! I argued about it for ages. But the bottom line is: big T won't let you have internet in a smart community without a land line.

I hope that was sarcasm

and the smokers are paying for the hospital reforms.
Doles, big difference, that is in a "Telstra Controlled" community, whereas the NBN is not.
hopefully i can get at least adsl in my area with this.
stupid telstra and splitting the copper cable with my neighbors @_@

Ha stuff ya neighbors they dont need a phone line.
had the same issue with my cheap developer using pair gains tried everyone then internode came through like always.

try with internode as they seem to be able to always get customer connected as they have a higher subscriber fee. maybe higher though least u get a connection
well finally fibre optics we'll beat you soon yet japanese and americans with yourr super fast internet we will be champions [Rage]
