The Monitor Thread

I though every other part gets a topic, why not the face of the computer, the Monitor.

To start it off I saw the Acer X243HQ 23.6" on MSY for 278($229 After $49 Acer cashback)

Can anyone tell me if its any good?
Not great, I would recommend the Asus VH-242H-Full HD $325

Not worth getting a 24" under $300 gonna be terrible quality, is it even full HD?

Edit: after looking back over the specs I retract my previous comment that Acer might be okay I would still recommend going higher up but if your budget cant handle that than it seems like a quality monitor

It's Acer, mate.

Acer...

Whats wrong with that....?
They're a pretty cheap brand; our school uses those exact monitors and they are very average.
you sure I thought that as well before realizing that it was a newer model the old model only supports resolutions up to 1440 x 900
Heres my monitor www.displayblog.com/

I have 3 monitors here, 2 Acers and a Benq and I havent had a single problem with the Acers, I have no idea what you're complaining about
I have a acer on the other pc And I sorta like the design as well

I have this one. Samsung SyncMaster 305T

don't know what is going on with that pic stonecold, but it ain't working.
Maybe try hosting it here on the site?

My main monitor is 24in BenQ M2400HD

and my second monitor is a BenQ E900W

I'm very happy with the M2400HD, a good performer for it's price, worth looking at it if you're shopping around for a 24in monitor.
iam getting the acer as well ...i have a choice between the following three monitors :

BenQ G2412HD
Acer X243HQ
Viewsonic VX2433WM

as part of the pc i am getting i can choose between any of the above for the same price... the store is selling them separately for (Benq - 319, Acer -308 (259 after cash back) and the viewsonic -289)

i need to make up my mind before tuesday so that when i pick up my pc i can ask for any of the above screens....

the benq and the viewsonic have hdmi as opposed to the acer which does not..in store the viewsonic looked the brightest....other than that i have NO idea which screen to go with
I got the Benq FP202W 20/22 inch im not sure. The monitor is probably obsolete now.
Well, I've got:

- A 20" BenQ FP202WA

- A 22" Viewsonic VX2260wm

But, I mainly use my ASUS N50v most of the time now, and haven't touched them in a while...
i know this is a noobish question but here it is

on my monitor there is 2 ports (VGA and DVI) and same in my GPU but i was wondering whether i need both or just the DVI

i know stupid Q but anyway coz i just realised that my computer is picking up two monitors and this is probably why
yup you only need to plug one in one cable from each appliance plugging into your monitor

From what I understand DVI is newer, therefor better suited to new monitors. If you're using CRT like me you only need VGA but I recommend DVI for an LCD.
nvm i just pulled it out and works fine

The DVI plug will let you run a higher resolution than the VGA.
that is true, but only if you want to go higher than 1920 x 1200 - vga supports that.
I just picked up a BenQ 2200HD.

Not exactly happy with it. it has ONE stuck pixel, near the centre of the screen to the left (red in colour).

I took it back to the store and demanded they swap it over, they won't do it unless they can send it back under warranty, and BenQ's warranty for LCD's is it must have 3 pixels before it can become a warranty claim.

Other than that though I love the monitor, it's really nice
that is a really bad warranty.
Samsung's is just 1 stuck pixel.
That was lucky for me as 2 of the ones i bought recently had stuck pixels.

I can't stand even a smudge on my screen, so a stuck pixel is like a kick in the balls for me.

I though most retailers will do a in store swap within a small time frame. My local MSY has a 7 day period in which you can take something back after that you're on your own.
