xCaRmiNEx's Case Project

Welcome!

This is where noobs like myself can come and see what another noob is doing

I recently joined here from my360 and had 3 old computer lying around my house.

While seeing what Guyver has been doing i have decided with a new job on the horizon (Next Weekend ) i will be earning more money and have decided to build my own PC.

So far I have:

A Case

A 240 volt POWER Box with all cables attached

and a M$ MOUSE & KEYBOARD

So with all that out of the way i am starting to learn from tutorials on the internet and from the good folks on MyFrag how to build and decide what I need to get and look for while im out and about.

So with the introduction out of the way I have some questions BELOW

QUESTIONS
1. Will the case i currently have in the pics above be able to hold a present motherboard and all its fittings?
2. What would be the best brand/sort of motherboard to look at purchasing to be able to enjoy pc gaming again?
3. What would be the best brand/sort of graphics card to get for gaming and such?
4. Will the 240 Volt power box run a modern mother board?

So with all my questions out of the way (so far) i will be starting today on the case. With sanding and priming it *hopefully*

So i hope to get some help on my little Project and get to learn a bit about the inside workings of a computer a little bit more.
240v will be no good, wont run anything unfortunately, depending on your budget for graphics cards it looks like the $235 Ati4850 or $150 Nvidia 9600gt will be your best bet. Depending on how much your will to spend there are more expensive cards if you have the money.
do you mean 240V? or 240W?
1. Hard to say. To be entirely sure you will need the dimensions of the finished motherboard housing all components, or better yet, Google the maker and name of the case and see what other people say about it.
2. Get a motherboard that supports multicore CPUs and PCI-E graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire. There are lots of brands, so people here or elsewhere will be able to give you good reviews.
3. I swear by NVIDIA, and either a 8800GTX (I have it in 1GB) or a 9800GX which is actually dual-core already.

I would recommend going to an online computer shop and stealing the list of their top gaming rig's components. Then you can try to get those parts cheaper, if you want, or just buy the thing already and start gaming.
Oh and the case is a old Compaq computer. that's not going to be a hassle would it?

Also the Power box says:

AC INPUT(47-63Hz): 200-240V/4A

MAX OUTPUT POWER: 300W
i started to paint mine but mine is enamel black now

i was just wondering do i need primer lol but i already started to spray paint.

ye otherwise the paint wont stick and it'll flake
I just fiinshed before peeling the stickers off and started a light sand. will be buying a primer for it tomorrow after work
300W = lowspec hardware. Use that case as a starting point and buy a 500W PSU or better.
This is great so glad my little project has motivated others to give it a shot.
In regards to what mother boards will fit in that case I would get either find someone who has a mobo you can borrow for a test fit, or measure it all up and then go look at the Asus, Gigabyte etc website and check their dimensions of their mother boards. When it comes to motherboards I like Asus, easy to use BIOS and utilities.

not really ..

if this were a computer where it didn't have a dedicated card for graphics, then 300W is good ...

htpc you could get the ASUS mobo mo#(unknown, cbf checking)) with an equivilent of a 8300GT ..

THATS PLEANTY for a htpc and prob will do for school work with 3d rendering displaying it, (3d rendering counts on the ram and cpu)
I would only just be inferring here that he would be building this with some gaming intentions.

i will only maybe drill like ten holes in the side and maybe put like a wire gauze thing for lik dust stuff lol
"low spec"

don't think that's the way to discribe it imo .
When I say lowspec I intend that he won't be running any video card that requires more power than the what the pci-e port can provide. Some simple set up with an nv8400, low power consumption motherboard and some CPU around the 2ghz dualcore mark (64bit) while running just one harddrive and optical drive would be suited to a 300W power supply. That would make a quiet and tidy work station.
couldn't you just say low power S:
