MoH vs CoD - The Way It Should Be

Everyone is trying to compare Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 which is like comparing Apples to Chocolate. Both offer extremely different experiences, and their similarities are simply the fact both are set as modern warfare shooters.

Call of Duty was born to combat the success of the Medal of Honor series back in the PS1 days, and has since grown into the behemoth that we all know today. Medal of Honor lost its way after the excellent Allied Assault in the early 2000's and last year took a crack at a franchise reboot.

The game met with decent reviews, standing at 75% on metacritic. Mostly praised for its multiplayer which was actually developed by the team behind Battlefield 3. The sales were good enough to warrant a sequel, yet less than a year later it seems everyone has forgotten about the series yet again.

When it comes to gameplay Medal of Honor and Call of Duty are definitely closed experiences than CoD and Battlefield. Why is everyone so intent on comparing the two? Discuss.
MoH is underrated. Don't understand the hate. I think what we will see of Battlefield 3 will be in part due to what was in MoH.

I also enjoyed MoH, thought it was pretty underrated from a single player perspective, never really got in the MP much funnily enough

I think people are comparing BF3 and MW3 because a lot of people want to see MW get taken down a peg and BF3 is really the only one out there that even has a chance of doing that, MoH was a pretty good game but as an overall package didn't really come close to the quality and fun of COD
It will be funny when they release another MoH that's really good. Why funny? Cause CoD fanboys will say its just a copy of CoD ... then we will lol at the ignorance
HAHA yeah - the whole reason for CoD's existence is Medal of Honor. It would be great to see that franchise rise to greatness - I still remember playing the original on the PS1 for the first time and being BLOWN away by it, and then it managed to do it to me again with Allied Assault. Sure, by today's standards they are pretty damn average, but I'll never forget those experiences, and I hope that one day the series will rise to greatness again.

To be fair, it was broken but I really enjoyed the 2010 reboot.

they were until the one from last year which was set in Afghanistan during the current war - a modern war if you will....

Until last years reboot they were all based in WW2. Last year took a realistic (in terms of setting) look at modern warfare. Instead of CoD which sets their games in Unspecifiedastan, MoH was set in Afghanistan and all the characters were based on real life SAS operatives (or spec ops, I don't remember which unit now). I applaud them for that, and to be honest some of it was a lot of fun, but it was just broken in some places and got a little too boring.
yep different experiences at least when you compare the original battlefield and battlefield 2142and battlefield 2. The settings probably help with the comparisons but I also think people are looking to see if COD really does improve on their formula that has them pumping out a new one regularly which has a lot of people frustrated especially the pc community.

I've never played battlefield: bad company but I'm assuming that they took the route of COD and thats probably why everyone is looking at BF3 in a similar light?

I enjoyed MOH : allied assault. Im not quite sure happened with the other iterations but I assumed they never built upon their strong points and COD just rallied it better.

the new MOH seemed to be received well but other than that, you certainly don't hear much about an upcoming seque. I also think when aiming for the cod userbase, I don't think many got the same experience out of it even with its realistic backdrop which is a shame. Did multiplayer have something to do with it? was it lacklustre?

The multiplayer was great - it's the single-player that let it down. Set pieces were highly scripted and it just felt out dated, however graphically it was pretty nice.

I think if they polished the gameplay and made it feel new, they could definitely at least stand next to CoD without hanging their heads.

Personally I think BF: Bad Company took the over the top, ridiculous single-player campaign as a stab at CoD. It was trying to be bigger, louder and more obnoxious on purpose as a tongue in cheek pisstake.
HAHA come on guys, this isn't a flame session, this is a genuine discussion.

The only reason CoD exists is because of Medal of Honour. The two games actually play very similarly while CoD and Battlefield don't really play the same at all. I think as others have stated in this thread, people are siding with CoD simply because it is the only game that has enough pulling power to be in the same realm as the massive Call of Duty franchise.
Trolls be gone -- you aren't cool just because you can't contribute constructively to the discussion...

The first MOH on PS2 was the best. The recent one was fun but it lost a lot of the flavour of the franchise.

can too

I enjoyed MoH it had a nice blend of cod and battlefield. the score chain point system was really cool. it lacked in maps and classes though. i dont see it ever taking down cod but if they make MP last longer it would be a great alternative.
Sure you can't compare them to other games but its somthing that has to be done. Like sure the games dont run the same but people compare aspects. Like how I would compare the abillites in Crysis 2 to Halo Reach. And I would compare shooting to a mix between cod and Halo with a higher health then cod but lower than Halo.

If I were to say BC2 handles the same as MW2 I would then be wrong, but I don't think I ever see those kind of comparisons.
Exactly because when MW 2 was coming out we had the newest MoH on the horizon, it's almost as if they have to compare MW3 and BF3 simply because there is nothing else.
I remember Medal Of Honor back on the ps1 days...played that religiously split screen at my brothers house. Ahhh the days of memorizing where health packs were...good times!

But seriously, this is a far more accurate comparison (the new one) to COD, as opposed to the all terrain behomoth that is Battlefield. I like the new one but it's bloody hard online, so many one shot kills :( Maybe I just need to practice
I wonder how the new Medal of Honor sequel will fare after the war is over between CoD and BF
I belive MOH airborne was a good idea could of turned out so much better :( If a new MOH comes out I will buy for sure
Yeah I'm really keen to see what the sequel will have in store for us - no details have been revealed except for the designer saying they are working on it. Let's hope they fix the shortcomings of the 2010 release!
MoH was based on the early assault in Afghanistan right afte 9/11, the sequel will be the middle and hopefully the final in the series will be u play a member of the famous Navy SEALs Team 6 n get that chance headshot Osama [crosses fingers]
The MoH story is based on real events not 100% accurate but close while MW3 is based on fiction.
MoH had a great run from Ps1 to the Ps2 gen, with insanely addictive games such as frontlines, rising sun, pacific and euro assault. I think they released too many WWII shooters which is why we saw the genre take a stoop down, and devs trying new paths such as BF2143. MoH has always had great SP but its CoD that has the MP. I do like the authenticity that EA put into the MOH games though.
The first MOH I played on PS2 was amazing great fun.
Medal Of Honor was great at capturing the cinematic style of war, particularly Allied Assault when it was released for the PC. Not many game have come close to the feeling of storming Normandy in that game.

This is true. But weren't all the best MOH games made by what became Infinity Ward? I was under the impression the last one they made was MOHAA and basically nothing I've played since Allied Assault has been worth even finishing...

The first game was easily my favourite. My first proper WW2 game (unless you count Red Alert) and the atmosphere was amazing!
