Got ink?

This thread is basically a rip off of that piercing one but I noticed a number of people coming in talking about tattoos. So, *tear*. Whether you got any and want to discuss or you are thinking/planning on getting any work done. Just keep it civil.

Post pics if you got any. (I will post my own soon, gotta get my hands on the camera)

yep, lose the weight first. the tattoo will be distorted with exess skin.
I've looked this up before I got my first one, it won't really make a noticeable difference unless you lose the weight really fast, like with surgery or starving yourself or some such other act, if you lose it gradually it should remain exactly the same.

It's still better to lose the weight first. I'm actually thinking I'll design my tattoo. I want something musical. I also want just a plain heart...
My friend dared me to get a Charizard fighting a Gyarados, he started drawing it and it's not half bad, I said I'd get it on my back if he helped pay for it.

I guess it's true what they say, once you get one Pokemon tattoo, you can't stop there.
Alright, seriously considering getting my hourglass soon... was inspired by a friend's Thin Lizzy tattoo

This is the, um, classiest looking place (as in, the place I think is least likely to **** it up) that I can find, and it's ****ing expensive ($160 an hour), but imo worth it, as it is going to be stuck on me for good... but a few ink-noob questions, and don't laugh, cause I've never even set foot in a tattoo place before... first, how does charging by the hour work? is that the time that they're actually doing the tattoo, ink gun in hand, or also showing them the artwork, choosing the design, etc..? that could add up to ages... and how long might a small tattoo take,i.e. a little bigger than a square inch? also, do they sharpie it on beforehand so you can get a feel for the look of it/make sure they do it right? Or is it really hit and miss? and also, any other places in Melbourne you can recommend? non-dodgy places that is...?
i belive they make a template thing they rub on your skin and trace over (sort of drawing it on i guess)

I thought that was Pringles.
Pricing goes from when you lay down on the table to get inked. They could charge you for a consultation but no-one else does it so probably not.

Sometimes the artist will free-hand the basic design straight onto you, sometime he will even negate that and just start slinging ink. Most of the time, though, they will have a stencil.

Don't know of many places in Melb, but I have heard good things about EI, Most of the dodgy places will charge less per hour. Anything under $110 an hour and you can start looking at them funny.
I wouldn't go to a place where they don't use stencils if I were you, just to be on the safe side. Cause that's ounds like something I'd do...and I'm not a very smart man when it comes to staining to skin for the rest of my life.

A tattoo that small would probably take an hour at most I reckon.
And they draw a design, scan that into a machine that prints out a copy of it on carbon paper which then gets put on your skin with water, so its basically the outline on your skin for them to follow and for you to look at in the mirror.

Watch some Miami Ink or LA Ink or something if you want to know more

That machine thing sounds pretty hardcore.. I find it hard to believe that my local tattoo parlour has one of those haha.

Dude, its a photocopier (more or less)wit different paper

My tattoo is weird and raised (has been since i got it 7 years ago, lol, i would not recommend Wicked Ink in Orange, NSW
Sounds exactly like the tattoo I got at Wicked Ink in Penrith. Coincidence? I think not.

It could also have to do with my skin type, i had chronic acne as a teen, and got on the roactuane, fixed it up, but thats some pretty hardcore stuff, affects your skin for years afterwards and also effects your liver while your taking it.

I highly recommend it to anyone who has really really bad skin
I don't know why mine is puffy, it's not noticeable unless you run your fingers over it, but meh.

I believe charging by the hour is only duing the actual process and not including picking design, etc...
The one I got covers the top half of my arm. It's a basic tribal thingy and it took just under 3 hours.
Bascially they made the design into a rub-on tattoo then went over it.
I went to a place near Vic Market, and I think it was called 'Vic Market Tattoos', surprisingly. They did a good job, even though it was my first and only time.
I hope you have a rough idea by now based on my one experience...
OK.. I'm taking a poll, and before we start, I know they're both stupid ideas, but I'm getting one either way

Lion King or Alien? What would be better? I have no idea of the pose or placing yet, I'm just unsure of which would be stupider...cause that's what I aim for in permanent body art.

Wasn't that the drug that was found to cause serious side effects? I believe mental problems or something?

Lion King or Alien?

Alien versus Lion King!
Pass

I'll probably end up getting them both eventually, I just recently decided I would spend my Christmas casual cash on a tat instead of a new TV, so I don't know which to get first... the Alien one will definitely be more expensive due to the detail...
Lion King for sure. A mate of mine has an alien theme arm piece and it looks tacky IMO.
I'm not getting anything near a sleeve, I'm thinking this:

On the back of the top of my arm... What's it called tricep, I think..
Oh! 'Aliens' aliens.. Nowigedja. Yeah, thats would be pretty sweet, black and grey would be your best bet for that. My mate has cartoony looking ones as one whole sleeve. A bit meh in my books.

By the way, anything to do with the arms is just labeled as 'The Guns'
I'm a gamer my "guns" are my thumbs

And yeah, it's gonna be in black and grey/purplish, I wanna keep my arm with the uniform black.

Cost pending I might also be getting "Kerosanak" on the inside of my forearm.
I have the outline of this on my arm, going to start filling it in next week, will post pics when it's done.
