Marge said: I know the actual certificate is important to getting into uni and having the best career paths but its stupid that it is so important. For example somebody who is a talented artist/designer and wants to do a graphics design course. To get in they will have to do hundreds of collective hours of school subjects, most of which will be utterly irrelevant to them in life. I see the value in it for getting kids use to pressure. I'm mainly annoyed because my ability to write long essays will dictate if i can do a computer engineering/IT course(obviously very different to essay writing)

That's the point of school. That's part of the reason why we go. To get us ready for a competitive adult world. Some don't need it, some get more benefit out of a more hands-on environment, but it'll make life considerably easier for you down the track if you've actually completed high school for something like IT work. You restrict how far you can go in that field with it. You'll eventually hit a brick wall imo.
