Controversial LFL Coming To Australia

The Lingerie Football League is coming to Australia, Sparking up controversy with various people claiming that the sport is demeaning to women and is nothing more than a 'cheap perve' for the blokes.

In case you haven't heard of the LFL (or saw the television ad's) the LFL is a women's 7-on-7 tackle American Football League (NFL) created back in 2009.

It's a full contact sport similar to other indoor football leagues. The uniforms the women wear consist of nothing other than shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, garters, bras, panties and ice hockey-style helmets.

LFL Australia is scheduled to premiere in 2013, But with the league officially announcing that Australia will be hosting the 2012 LFL All-Fantasy Game Tour. Two exhibition games between the Eastern and Western Conferences will take place on Australia's east coast, the first in Brisbane on June 2, with the second in Sydney on June 9.

So what's everyone's thoughts on this? Is it demeaning to women? Is it nothing more than a cheap perv? Or do you think that it's a genuine real sport.
Sure women are allowed to play sports, But why do they need to wear nothing more than lingerie whilst doing it? No doubt i'm not going to lie and say i'm against it. I'm all for it IF the women competing are okay with the uniforms and there is no objectification or abuse that they receive behind-the-scenes.
This is the type of thing that confuses me about feminists. Some feminists will push for its abolition because it's demeaning to women, and others will argue that as women with equal rights, they should have the right to choose for themselves whether they would participate in this or not.

To me it does sound a bit distasteful, but as always sex sells and money makes the world go around, so I doubt a bit of complaining will make it go away.

It's not like the women who play are horrible at the sport. The only demeaning part is that they're in lingerie.
If playing in my underwear is the only way I can play footy then I will :P

*kids:Look look mummy is ok tv.. Why is just wearing her underwear?
*dad:Because she's one sexy mummer :P
Cheap perv, I say. Mud/jelly wrestling must be getting boring for some viewers.

We already have a ladies league for just about every sport we have for the blokes (fair enough, NRL is touch, but none-the-less). There is no need for this 'sport'.

Having said that, I'd buy tickets. :P [Derp]
How is it anymore demeaning than the attire of beach volleyballers? It's fair to say that's just a cheap perve but no one comes out saying it because it's a legit sport but these girls take their sport pretty seriously.

If their was a W-AFL/NRL & they virtually wore what the men do in shorts & cut off guernseys you'd still get all the feministas coming out complaining again you just can't win.

Would a parent rather their daughter playing a contact sport as a profession or stripping/modeling because chances are that's what a fair amount of the athletes would be resorting to if they didn't have the LFL :P
cheap perv

I'd love to see a fight, and panties come off
I'm not against it. If women are happy with playing contact sport in there negligibles, then they should be allowed to. That said, I can't imagine myself taking the sport or athletes seriously at all.
I've watch LFL before and it's more fun to watch not because there just hot chicks in underwear playing football but they play it serious with more hits and fights than a State of Origin match.

Another popular female contact sport is Roller Derby, like that's been around since the 70's n still popular and that's more brutal with players elbowing faces and high impact collisions.

well if women want to play this then let them. women have been fighting to play sports like football and now they can just with some different rules but the important thing is that they want to play it
LFL is pretty high-quality sport in America.. I doubt though we'd be able to produce a strong league any time soon because NFL is so niche here.
Definately a cheap perv. That's why I watch it. [MOG]
I forget who said this but I remember laughing and nodding..

"We have already tricked women into believing dancing on poles in their underwear is exercise, we have won. Least we can do now is listen to them occasionally"

I'm thinking it may have been Chris Rock- either way its very true.

This "Modern day liberated woman" isn't as liberated as she might like to believe, but eh. Each to their own I guess.
It's just like the women that believe stripping is "Liberating"- yep ..ok.
I watched a video of this on Youtube the other day, for research purposes only.... [Shifty] Looks like those girls aren't ****ing around they are right into it. Hey if they like doing it let them, it's not like anyone is forcing them to do it.
They could wear some clothes and keep their dignity. Heaven forbid.

One of my old GF's was a Germaine Greer supporter, stopped just shy of calling herself a feminist. A walking contradiction, she would also go to her cheer-leading practice like it was a religion and had a weird habit of wearing bugger all clothes when it was cold out.

A short relationship.

Sort of reminds me of that Eastern-European protest group FEMEN: "How do we, as women, get attention for issues we take seriously? Take our clothes off, of course!! That's how you get the men to care about matters of affair"

[Facepalm]

If that were the case, we'd all just watch the news at the local titty-bar.
There's a local one?
Makes you wonder ?? Do they buy there own bra and undies or do they get them supplied.
JUst wanna know there stance of ripping and or tearing.
Are they pro rip or pro tear.

hahahahahahaha with their teeth lol

Feminists in general are a walking contradiction.

"We want equality and freedom! Make all men hire a certain amount of women!"

WAT
They are on the news now. I forgot how small the field is that they play on. [WTF]
I wouldn't play full contact sport in my underwear. It's just not practical. @_@
It's simply business. Need viewers to make money and the audience would be tiny (especially in Aus) if it were normally dressed female NFL.

This way it has an audience and is profitable. Nobody is forcing these women to be involved. If they think it's demeaning, don't play. They clearly want to do it.
American LFL is playing a one off game as mentioned above. The LFL that was planned for Australian women was actually going to be called LADIES Football League. It is still going ahead in QLD with, I believe, 6-7 teams in Sth East Queensland. The field size si the same as Arena Football.

Ancient Greeks wrestle and played sports naked because it was practical.

Yeah it's a Indoor American Football field which is 50 yards.
