Mumble - MMGN server!

Please welcome the latest addition to the family of myfrag servers,
a voice application server for the program Mumble!

We now have a 24 slot voice server and are willing to let it get used (but not abused)
This server will be used for games nights and for myfraggians wanting to have a chat.
If the latter, don't be surprised if when you come into the room and there are people screaming for hax etc. as that will be me yelling at the screen.

Please try to keep swearing on the low down. I don't mind it, but highly profane words and lots of them will get you banned, with only the highest amount of grovelling to see you regain entry.
I reserve the right to kick and ban whoever I choose.

The server is

port: 21002

password: myfrag

Also note, mumble has 3d positional audio compatibility in a lot of popular games.
What this does is it picks where someone's voice is coming from and places it accordingly, so now when the scream comes from your left saying "help, hunter!" it will actually sound like it comes from the left.
We have tried it, and it's awesome.

If you struggle to hear in games with positional audio like L4D1 try these settings out, the red bars are the changed values, don't forget to click advanced first in bottom left!

nothing can beat vent but this is alright

its really only the quality of mumble but its fine and i think its free

but yeah vent>ts3>mumble imo

Change your settings the quality is perfect if you set it up right :/

And yeah servers for this are much cheaper and its made by SourceForge I flat out cbf with TS and Vent. If we bought a server for those, I'd still not download it.

This 3D positional thing is pretty sweet we just used it in L4D. Also the response is hell fast! If you press your Mumble voice and L4D voice at the same time theres a huge delay.

It has 3d positioning for some games. not to mention its pretty bloody clear and less lag time then in game bs.

Well Kamoj as you may have noticed, in L4D there is about a 2 second delay, also known as a year, before what you say is relayed to your team mates. If you are Huntered or Chargered you'll be half dead before they know you're snared. It's also pretty handy for games that have ****ty voice like COD4, GTA4, Battlefield of no voice like most RTS's.

I usually cbf with them either but mumble is well made, open source and cheap to run a server for. So I'm finding it awesome.

I think 3d positioning is cool, but what if you're too far away from other players to be heard?

Why dont we have a COD4 night with mumble. when booking the server (on bigpond) we can choose to disable Punkbuster so we dont have any issues.

We figured out pretty much everyones PB issues were Steam overlay

I think everyone is fixed. With a combination of manual update and overlay disabled, it seems to work.

Next to none, we did a test in L4D2 where I said "Bang" every time I pulled the trigger to see if Doyl could hear it at exactly the same time and its instant. You hear bang when I say bang and pull the trigger

If you press mumble + l4d key at same time its like "Hello so here HELLO SO HERE I am I AM"

EDIT: Also the positional audio you can tweak it so theres no sound falloff it was as you say a bit annoying. You can choose how much people speaking lowers the game volume so you can hear them, you can choose the distance before the falloff, and the amount of falloff (mines set to 100m and only loses 10% of volume because I effectively don't want to not hear them but itd be handy to know they're hell far away because of the sound drop

All in all, its awesometits.
