Best Character Builds - Diablo 3

So there are a good number of you out there who have a vast amount of experience with the Diablo series, and for a noob like myself the idea of really building a character for your needs seems foreign and scary. I know you can set the game so you can assign whatever powers you want as opposed to the restrictive offensive/defensive balance the game forces by default, but I thought it could be good to hear from you guys what you think is the best character build and why.

The beauty of D3 is that you can change and adapt your build to suit your playstyle as you progress. There's no right or wrong build and Blizz really want you to be able to play any way you can imagine.

A lot of builds are also fairly gear dependent and abilities will become less or more viable depending on your gear. A lot of people are shifting strats since the recent IAS nerf. You also tend to run it can be worth running a different build when playing co-op as opposed to solo.

Best bet is roll a character, start out slowly with the abilities they give you, learn how they work, experiment with the new abilities/runes as you unlock them until you find something you are comfortable with. It's hard to recommend builds for players just starting out imho.

Thanks for the advice @SiR409 do you have a particular build you are running right now?

I've got a female Witch focusing on frost powers, I'll log in later and find out exactly what I've got going, but it seems to be working fine for me so far.

I'm focusing on a wizard at the moment.. here is a link to my current build - us.battle.net/...

With this build I'm running just shy of 300k ehp with 29k dps. Still got a long way to go gear wise but it's good enough for A1 and A2.

Can't say I really like the prospect of playing a WD just yet.. tried one early on in the peace and didnt really enjoy it.
