Who is excited for this release, it looks pretty good from all the trailers and what not..and the release date should hopefully be this year, because eb games has it available for pre-order now and has tbc 2009, but you can never really trust eb lol...what are everybody elses opinions on d3

I cannot click +1 enough on this post [Rage]

Seriously that is like saying "God CS is easy and bland, thank **** I can go play TF2".

Anyway so far Diablo 3 is kind of not doing it for me. I was expecting a lot more from it but right now the thing I'm most loving about this game... Is the interface design [Facepalm] I keep looking at all the buttons and dialogue box styling and getting really excited about receiving my artbook for the uber edition *_*

But yeah the game itself.. Man this is harsh to say... But I'm feeling some Titan Quest when I'm playing it :'@

I reckon hack and slash action games started going downhill when they went the way of 3D.
Needs to be a bit more "cartooney"

Super high res isometric would be cool. They can make it look so good with pre-rendered stuff, and it does seem to work better as you say.
Gave it a go last night, was fairly impressed although it did have its faults.

I liked the whole 'You have finished the beta!' at the end. [MOG]

Not sure if this will be a day one purchase for me, but I will be buying it.
I've never liked games like this, but I'm glad I gave the beta a chance.
I'll definitely be picking this one up.
Still not loving it :( I am hating how little you can do compared to Diablo 2. No socketed items so far, nothing to put in them either. Seems, like Runewords got dropped and they were one ogf the best additions to the game...

I was worried this would be the outcome of this game.

Seems like dumbing down class and item systems is just the way games are heading today.

Massively though. As far as I can tell there aren't even attributes in this game. And skill trees seem totally linear... Seems like there might not be builds within a class, just a class. So you make 5 characters and that is it. Done. Not like Auradin, Hammerdin, FoHer, Zealer etc all being different builds of one class.
I tooooold yoooooouuu. Not a single meaningful decision.

But you LIKE that. You like Torchlight ffs that is the most retarded brainless D2 wannabe I've ever played! This is still more complex than that, but it still pales in comparison to D2 with LoD...

There are attributes it's just there automatically assigned.

I also think there's plenty of options for builds with all the different attacks/skills than the runes and the passive skills aswell that leaves a lot of different options.
Attributes automatically assigned means you might as well not have them, your character is just getting stronger in a pre-defined way and you have no control over the way they are growing. That is shit?

Is there for the Skills? I could be wrong, I bloody hope I'm wrong, but it looks like you could essentially max out your skills simply by levelling up as theres not that many of them and not that many points. It just doesn't look like there is much point in specialising, at least not as much as there was in D2.

If they want to make it easier, why not make it like Guild Wars where you DO specialise, but you can at any point, and for no cost, reset your points and attributes?

I dunno I'm probably jumping the gun here but having just played through Diablo 2 again this month it is very fresh in my mind how much this game is not living up to it...
The whole point of trees within classes is to branch out into making a more specialised class. You could have two paladin characters and then within that branch into many different types of paladin. A linear skill system is simply "You got stronger" and there's nothing to separate your paladin from your friends paladin. There isn't even any point in calling that a skill tree since there isn't any tree structure to it.

If Diablo 3 is just going to be babbys first RPG then I think I'll safely give it a miss.

get torchlight 2 when it comes out, going to be soo much better imo.
It does seem very dumbed down from the last game. But, in all fairness, so has every genre of game since the late '90's.

Larger demographic = Simpler product. E.g: Apple.

I don't like it. @_@ And Torchlight had like three separate skill trees for each class, plus mods that extended things further.

In Diablo 2 stats were meaningless. The perfect build was all your stat points into Vitality; anything deviating from that is a less-than-ideal build. D3 is doing this better.
Stupid question, but do all the things you do in the open beta get transferred to the proper game when you start up?

If you were a caster maybe but each attribute (except Mana really) had its place. Strength would increase damage for a melee char, dex would boost block and accuracy which was important to say a Zealer or Bowazon. It also dictated what weapons and armor you could use. Essentially for a Hammerdin to wear the Elite version of Ancient Armor they would need to sacrifice points that could have gone into Vitality, hence the Archon Plate being the most popular choice for making Enigma. Same with Sorce, she would usually go for Dusk Shroud for this reason, whereas a Barb could easily hold an IK and BOTD TMaul despite ridiculous strength requirements.

Can't really say it is all into Vitality, that is really only true of PvP which is only a small part of the game.

EDIT: Also I think loot must be limited heavily in the Beta, the auction house confirms there are Uniques, Sets and also Socketed weapons, so one can assume also Gems, maybe even Runes. That will make a big difference to me. I hope the cube is retained as well.

That's it, I'm reinstalling Torchlight and I'm gonna see how it stands up to another playthrough. [Rage]

Rose-tinted glasses seem to be why people are holding D2 in such high regards. It was good, but it ain't no D3.

iamtom said: **** character limits; read it here: www.reddit.com/...

That is very well argued, and I agree that if a system is useless to gameplay, then it should be removed. Same reason why I oppose QTEs and lockpicking/hacking minigames; it's a waste of time and it's just busywork, because we all know we're going to succeed.

I still stand beside my earlier contention that the game doesn't give you enough interesting choices, though. Let me support it with a relevant link! www.gamasutra.com/...

So I think the doing away with stats is a good thing, but the limitation in skills is a bad thing. They should have just differentiated the skills more, made them better able to stand by themselves, let people mix and match instead of limiting which ones can be bound to which keys. In a month or two, everyone's characters will be pretty much exactly the same, varying only in equipment and actively bound skills.

EDIT: I take back what I said above. Read a bit more of that reddit, got linked to this page and saw the huge variety of skills. That's a lot of interesting decisions. :> us.battle.net/...

No

You need to stop looking at the "OPEN BETA" as the final game, It was designed for stress testing, last night there was a major bottleneck and now its gone.

Pretty much everything in the game in stored server-side, quests, loot drops and even your characters....
Start points are one small part of many. They act like Synergies were detrimental changes but they werent they faber you somewhere to go with s skill beyond 20 points because a whole heap of different skills was generally pretty useless so specialising a select few to make them very powerful was a lot more fun. The problem is that though the new system means you can be all powerful with 0 effort or knowledge, how long exactly do you think that will be fun?

Ultimately D2 was a basic concept fed by loot greed, you basically levelled up to farm more gear to farm more gear to farm more gear. Making a game this basic even more basic seems like it will annihilate any sort of longetivity.

I'm almost glad in a way though because it means I'll be over out before Guild Wars 2 comes out. Guild Wars took me off D2 so it's only fitting GW2 will take me off D3.
