New L4D DLC "Screw you Boycotters"

Steam Said: August 4, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the next major downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D), the #1 new game title on Xbox 360 and PC in 2008

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

Steam Said: "Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is targeted for release in September and will be available free of charge on the PC and for 560 Gamer points on Xbox Live.

LOL but eeeeeverything is fun when we're winning, even Death Toll and that campaign is like being sodomised by a pineapple!

When I saw this info on the kotaku this morning I was jumping for joy. I can't beleive they're going to bring back the crashing helicopter concept back! They have the audio files they scrapped from it and everything!

Yeah man totally slack I mean CoD4, Halo3, CoD:WaW, Gears of War 2 and GTA4 all gave us such a huge amount of free content!

I can't speak for Halo/GoW2 but every other one of those games is miles bigger than L4D... I wouldn't complain about the lack of free content if the game wasn't so ****ing short in the first place now would I?

You really bought off by a new "30 minute" campaign? A huge talented company like Valve and they only recently added versus support to the other half of the campaigns. Since the SDK came out tiny mod teams have managed to make fully functional and surprisingly accomplished campaigns, a testament to the ease in which they're created. I really think L4D should have had 8 fully co-op/versus enabled campaigns on release, or implemented them shortly after. They're charging a full game price for a non full game.

Its hilarious that you compare it to GTA4 of all of those games, its a HUGE open world with amazing animation and physics, a huge story and even with that quantity of single player gaming, it also had multiplayer, ALL on release. COD4 had what I consider a very short solo campaign but it still leaves L4D for dead, and then tacks on a brilliant multiplayer.

Why are people being so fanboyish about that.

Skarteh whether you think Left4Dead was worth it or not, is debatable what is not debatable is that Left4Dead has offered more free content than any of its competitors including a brand new game mode and now new campaign. The small mod teams creating new campaigns cannot be compared to Valve I hate to think about the waves of fanboys that would be complaining if Valve had released "Death Abroad", although you did point out more free content that valve has released in the dev tools and map editors available to pc L4D players.

@Wii fan, I never said L4D isn't worth it, I play the damned game every night! I'm saying its a very small game which has maps that are really easy to make due to their zombie populating script yet they give us a game with 4 Co-Op campaigns and 2 that can be played in Versus. It takes them like a year to release the SDK they said would be out a couple of weeks after, a year to add the other 2 campaigns to versus... I fail to see how them adding content to the game that still doesn't bring it to the same amount other games RELEASED with makes them generous. They haven't added much anyway, all they've added is an SDK, put some ladders for infected into the other 2 campaigns and then add survival which is just small sections of already existing campaigns with an unlimited swarm of zombies.. it took me like a week to finish all of them on gold even allowing for having to redo several to get the achievement to register.

Can you not see how half assed they've been when it comes to actual work?

And yeah Death Aboard isn't hugely good but its bloody good considering how quickly they got it together, how balanced it is in Versus and that they did this with no resources and just a few people!
