Steam Greenlight is upon us (love)

What is Steam Greenlight?
At it's core, Steam Greenlight is a community voting hub where interest in a game can be measured before it is added to (or rejected from) the Steam store. This new process gives more power to the community as to what kinds of (mostly) indie games we'll be seeing on Steam, so vote your hearts out.

Talk up games, boycott crap, generally discuss below.
First set of Greenlit games have been announced.

- Black Mesa
- Cry of Fear
- Dream
- Heroes & Generals
- Kenshi
- McPixel
- No More Room in Hell
- Project Zomboid
- Routine
- Towns

All of which will be appearing on Steam-proper in the coming months

It's a great idea steam has implemented..
I like this system, gives people what they want.
democracy is always good...at least that is what the government tells me i should believe
So glad that Routine got the GreenLight! We actually interviewed them two weeks ago, seem like a talented bunch, one of them is from Melbourne.
Not too sure about developers having to pay $100 dollars to submit their game, but i guess it does get rid of all the joke submissions but i think it makes it harder for devs that want to create free to play.
In terms of development cost, $100 to submit is nothing.
I know that but that was the entire shit storm that blew up. Also it wont let you chose all more then one catergory at a time before it auto searches, its starting to bug me.
To be honest, the only people who complained about the fee were people who wanted to submit My First Game Maker Project and the such. If I felt that my hypothetical game was ready for a release on Steam, I'd have zero problem with a one-off $100 charge. Sure beats Apple's $99 per-year to keep it listed on the App Store (at least, that's how I remember it being).

Mirror's Edge X Borderlands.

Kinda.

I want to get behind this, but it looks quite clunky. Hopefully it either receives improvements, or similar games start popping up.
Exactly what I felt. Sure I understand indies aren't made of money but if your game is going to sell and is good enough to be on Steam then a $100 fee is nothing compared to the marketing and exposure that provides your project.
Yeh it does make sense now. I am a bit dissapointed Steam has moved the positioning of Greenlight to the bottom of the Store homepage. It would be nice if once a week they featured 5 of the top up and coming Greenlight games on that feature powerpoint board.

Just saw this game by a guy called LethalFrag on Twitch TV.

Looks a bit like Terraria, but the gameplay is weird to explain, you explore get weapons, and there is a meant to be a coop option to complete puzzles made by the community.
Does anyone actually spend any time exploring Greenlight? I never go there unless someone says "hey, can you vote for this project for me". Something about it just doesn't appeal to me.
I occasionally spend an hour or two sifting through my queue. It's a fun time waster IMO, but it would be better with a mobile app.

I've had an idea for something like this rolling around in my head for a while now, so I'm pretty excited about seeing it come to life. Especially since it means there are people out there who think the same way I do.

This game is as old as the mountains, I was actually registered in it a couple of years ago. It was pretty quiet, and the gameplay felt largely arbitrary.
Nearly forgot about this whole feature and only just got reminded then when it came up in my Steam update. Who here still actively votes?

About once a month I'll accidentally click a link that sends me to the Greenlight page. Then I vote on one (sometimes two!) things that don't look terrible. Or I just click back.
