Here is the thread for all your installation and dual booting issues and discussions. It's too hard to find anything in the general discussion thread...
Keep it on topic and open-sourced!
I might to a fresh install on my PC and wanted to dual boot with XP and Lunix.

Would it matter which I installed first?

I'm gonna dual vista and linux
I find it much easier to install your Windows OS and then install your Linux distro. The GRUB bootloader almost always automatically adds any Windows OS you have installed.

If you are new to Linux, you may want to consider installing VMware Server and familiarising yourself with Linux, before dual booting.

bbking, install xp first. ubuntu (linux) has an installation program designed specifically for your exact purpose
I don't want to cause a commotion with MSY so I'll give them a Linux cd

oh i think i get it now.
on the system that MSY are building for you, you want them to put on ubuntu instead of your "sourced" version of windows. yes?
Well that is fair enough. Ubuntu if awesome enough to do anything you want, except for playing the awesomeness that is games.

thats why ill prob dual boot vista to play games
I have a second Q guys.

I hear that Lunix uses WBFS partitions?? If I have already backup drives at the moment for XP which are in NTFS format and I have it connected to the PC with the Lunix/XP dual boot, will Linux be able to see the HDDs??
short answer, yes.
long answer, yes. Linux only needs a different kind or format for it's operating system drives.
Ubuntu actually uses ext3 filesystem. But yeah NTFS is totally compatible. Linux is compatible with everything. You never need to worry about formats and filetypes. Having said that, sometimes you need to tweak and play around, but thats the fun of it.
There is always a way. See how confident I am?
See how much I am helping you out with converting people to ubuntu doles?
I think I deserve a medal for it.... wait, I already got one
Yeah, Doyl, you're a big help. I'll try to invent some sort of Linux Medal down the track That'd be awesome
Well, I have another problem with my Ubuntu. I ordered the CD which I have lost so I downloaded it off their website. This time I burned it using Nero. I burned it to the CD sucessfully then I restarted my computer and told it to Boot from the CD. It said it was booting from the CD but then it booted Vista. Any ideas?
Yeah, I got an idea.

Stick with Vista.

I can't say I've seen that problem to be honest. Maybe try to do what Dabomb is suggesting. Other than that I would say double check your BIOS boot order

Do you remember how you did that? I clicked on the disk and I can't really see anything.
i had it but I had the actual live cd

if you install that little thing it boots up into the bios every time havent bothered to edit it and after 10 seconds it automaticly gos into ur main OS
