Has anyone tried out the beta version yet, if so what are your thoughts and experiences with M$ latest?

Here's the download link www.microsoft.com/

Some video tutorials for those who want to dual boot it next to your other OS.

and here's a program that allows you to open a whole OS in a window and your desktop and use it.

And last of, here's a video showing you how to install and use Windows 7 on Virtual PC.

Thanks to Kamon62 from MyWii for the info, he doesn't know I borrowed it yet
Then it starts shutting down every 2 hours.
it is meant to do that before June I think, but then completely expire at the end of June 2010.
Still, that is over a year away.

hey after i put my email in for they product key AND download it just stays at the loading screen why ?
you should get a popup.
a little flash program needs to download which is the windows downloader. Then after that it will start downloading windows7.

Look for any popup blockers that might be blocking it.
that or the server might be getting a big hit... but i doubt it, that happened weeks ago.
Has anyone managed to get an audio signal from a optical cable using W7? On my Rat Rig computer I only can get sound from standard stereo plugs. That leave 5 speakers and one sub woofer doing nothing
could be the motherboard...
are you using the motherboard optical cable or a sound card?

maybe use a live cd of ubuntu and see if you can use the optical cable then.
then you will know if it is W7

Well I couldn't get it to work with XP so I was hoping it would work with W7. Might be the mobo then.
i installed it yesterday. i lurves it.

Well that sucks. you sure the right end is in the right hole?
(and yes, I know that there is no 'right end')
It sucks but it sounds like you might want to take it back.
But before you do, maybe just try the ubuntu live cd to see if it isn't a windows driver compatibility problem.

it is good, not ground breaking, but good.
latest build (7100) is incredibly stable. I have had no crashes, freezes or BSOD yet. Fingers crossed it stays this way.
It is a bit laggy though, but for some reason all OS's feel laggy on my system. I think I maybe just have the wrong combination of parts.
It feels like win7 shuts down quicker than Vista, it might be because I have bugger all programs installed though.
Biggest improvement i've noticed is responsiveness especially in the "start menu" sometimes in Vista you'll goto open a sub folder for say... onscreen keyboard and it'll just hang there trying to load file icons for a few seconds.

Of course UAC isnt a chiwawa anymore, but that never bothered me with Vista that much (I dont turn UAC off).

Thinking of installing it on my laptop so I can use it more often, as im not willing to use it on my main system.

I have previously installed the beta on the laptop and RC on my desktop pc on a spare drive, and it detected all hardware without issue.
win7 does shut down faster.
Vista took yeeaaarrs.
I feel it doesn't really boot up any faster, a bit slower on my machine maybe but I can't be sure.
I even did the msconfig thing so that booting uses both cores rather than just one.
did you know about that Guyver?
press the start key, type msconfig and enter. then under the boot tab enable all four cores for booting processes. Should boot a few nanoseconds quicker.

I was under the impression that Windows will automatically use all cores available to load the OS, /NUMPROC mearly existed to limit the number of cores in use.

Im trying to find confirmation either way atm.

*googles*

EDIT:

Not 100% proof but seems to lead towards my original hypothesis

"This switch sets the number of processors that Windows will run at startup. With this switch, you can force a multiprocessor system to use only the quantity of processors (number) that you specify. This switch can help you troubleshoot performance problems and defective CPUs."

I just installed W7 on my lappy (Thankies Guyver) and it doesn't have any of the drivers for it, and google dont either...

So now im dl'ing all the drivers i need for my desktop. will install it on my spare 40gb hdd latter

Just put linux mint on my lappy

Its purty...
just use the vista drivers, they all work pretty much the same as Win7 is pretty much Vista 2
well pretty much.
some things like video card drivers dont work the same in win7 as they do in vista, but printer drivers do!
which reminds me, i need to install my printer.

There are no Vista drivers for my laptop.....

I have W7 on my desktop and its running well... cept my dual screens aren't working, they are clones...

I don't think it installed my gpu drivers properly... will try again

[update] Got it
oops, i just realised i hadn't installed my GPU drivers yet.

Lol.

Its so hot
W7 all the way

Now i need to find a way to dual boot XP W7 when i have them on separate hdd's and only on was plugged in when i installed W7...
Has anyone found any Asus drivers to suit win7 yet, there's nothing on the Asus site and none of the Vista drivers work.
asus?
as in, ATI? for your dark knight?

why bother going to the asus site? get them directly from ati!
So I haven't really had to do any installs before and need major help:

So firstly I am getting a new computer and want to keep my existing vista install its an education edition, I have been told its not as easy as just moving a harddrive is there any way i can hang on to it?

Second when I install windows 7 I will lose all my programs? Is there any way around it I have maybe around 200 programs and I really want to keep them how do you manage it?
