Has anyone tried out the beta version yet, if so what are your thoughts and experiences with M$ latest?

So I can download the RC, and use that as my only OS? Also, i have a 32 bit vista now, but can i download the 64 bit rc and use that???

you can only use the 64bit version of any operating system if your hardware supports 64bit architecture.

And yes, you can download it and use it as your operating system. However it has a ending time on it so you will not be able to use it forever. You will have to purchase a copy of the retail version of windows 7 some time after it's release

Have a look around as I'm sure there will be beta drivers for most hardware, you should install them to get he most out of it.

I'm going to milk it out for as long as I can or until the price drops after launch. Retail copy is going to put a serious dent in my wallet

So yeah, I'm getting Windows 7 64-bit when it comes out, and teh RAM will be a Kingston 4GB DDR2-800.

I guess that's maximum performance? Sweet.

you realise that those numbers pretty much don't mean anything right?

You have to gauge how good your harddrive is by read/write times.

I agree with DoYL, I am running Vista 64bit right now and my score is 5.9 and it means nothing. I got to yougamers.com to see how well my computer runs.

i know how good my drives are i actually got 1 point for going raid 0 which isnt to bad at all.

I think the hard drive score is not really accurate as they figured hard drive doesn't ever really make a big difference (dont flame I mean you will not usually get bottle necked by your hard drive).

yeah! I have a 10,000rpm raptor and I only got a 5.9.

After a little bit of googling it seems that 5.9 used to be the maximum score for the "Index Experience" scale and apparently the score remained capped at 5.9 for hard drives to get over that you need an ssd another interesting fact dual core processors are capped at 6.9 to go above you need a quad core or higher.

There capped on purpose by the way, for purposes of using the scores as game recommendation tools

Hey I've got a question. I have a HP desktop pc with pre-installed vista. If i clean install to windows 7 will i still need my HP recovery drive? (will it be of any use?)
