Wow there are so so many things wrong in that article..

Vista rendering software and hardware useless :s yeeaaah...oh noes Vista stoled my hard drives and raped my mother!

And Windows 7 offering "zippy" performance on netbooks??

I really think they mentioned the only critical difference of W7, the public perception. It really is just Vista with a hat, yet peoples perception of it seems overwhelmingly positive. Reminds me of the Mojave experiment, just goes to show people regurgitate information spread by others.

GFL W7
When Windows 7 goes on sale on Oct. 22, PC gamers will have little reason to run out to buy it, says Matthew Murray, managing editor of ExtremeTech.

"I don't think there's a lot about (Windows 7) that's going to make it that much more compelling to gamers than Vista," Murray said. "It's a bit better using memory, and it's a bit faster in certain areas, but the performance overall isn't really that much different. If you have Vista and you're happy with it, you can probably keep it, at least for now."

Have to say I agree with this persons comment 100%.

"I don't know what the guys at Extreme Tech are smoking, but a more stable operating system with better memory management is a pretty good reason to upgrade. #windows7"

Seriously better memory management alone makes 7 an almost must upgrade
well im still on xp so im probs gonna upgrade

There's a Vista vs. Windows 7 comparison video on YouTube somewhere that shows that yes, Windows 7 is faster, but the numbers are not actually very divergent. The memory usage benchmarks are only a few MB/s better on 7 — usually between 1-3 MB/s.

EDIT: Here is the video:

I'm not saying it's not worth it to upgrade — I agree with you, which is why I signed up for the free Win 7 upgrade — but accurate information is always lovely to have.
www.engadget.com/ Netflix update available ahead of Windows 7 release, I haven't had a look at Media center so not sure how much this effects us.

You have to be either a part time or a full time student to get that.
lol, I was in harvey norman yesterday looking at the computer they had set up with windows 7 on it, just having a bit of a play around. It looks really good, very flashy to look at and it seems quite fast to find things.
I was just thinking about buying it when the sales person comes up and no word of a lie the only reason he could come up with for why windows 7 is better than vista was...

"Because it is"

and it's like, well... you just lost a sale buddy, lol I'll get my copy from somewhere else

Then he showed me the difference between the full retail and upgrade versions of 7 and there was only like $40 difference according to their computer, why pay $40 less for a version you can't do a fresh install with??????

they confuse the heck out of me
Az
Im getting this tomorrow whats best to install 32bit or 64bit? i ask cause i always hear for compatibility and driver availability go with 32bit yet my PC is 64bit... also if i was to buy it online with a back up disc sent to me what is this back up disc will it allow me to install off disc also? dumb question but im not sure its a lot of money
get 64bit, you will have maybe a few minor problems here and there, you just gotta remember to select 64bit when you are downloading drivers.
not sure about the backup disc thing.

Az, the differences between vista and w7 are pretty much "Because it is"
Moving from Vista to W7 I said, is that it? really? I was expecting something extraordinary, but all i got was vista with an annoying taskbar.
Do you think the task bar is annoying? I like it and now I make this retarded look when I use XP at work and things aren't popping up for me when I mouse over them.
What does peoples reckon? Is the free versions of Windows 7 they were passing out in pc mags better or worse than XP?
beter than xp

by, oh i dont know, MILES!

ok i didnt mean that part of the taskbar.
I like that feature a lot. I mean the pinning stuff to it.
I just made a quick launcher and use that, i like that better.
I dont like how if you click one of the icons in the middle, all the icons to the right of that are still to the right of it, if you know what i mean.

I like being able to alt+tab and all the other windows going see through so I can see the window I have selected before making that my main window.

So it would be worth 'upgrading' from XP to the free 7 distro?
XP is old dude, you shoulda gone Vista ages ago, if not that then yeah get Windows 7. And the free distro you refer to would mean the Beta?

Well yeah thats what I'm running now, its the full version you just have to buy the Retail somewhere down the line as this version does expire. But its a huge leap up from XP any way you look at it. Move ooooon maaahnn!
