Has anyone tried out the beta version yet, if so what are your thoughts and experiences with M$ latest?

Here's the download link www.microsoft.com/

Some video tutorials for those who want to dual boot it next to your other OS.

and here's a program that allows you to open a whole OS in a window and your desktop and use it.
www.microsoft.com/

And last of, here's a video showing you how to install and use Windows 7 on Virtual PC.

Thanks to Kamon62 from MyWii for the info, he doesn't know I borrowed it yet

It arrived in Australia yesterday and finished processing just after midnight. If I'm lucky, I'll get it next week.

probably tuesday me thinks
I'm still happy with the RC, to those that already have it, is there anything really life changing in the full version?

RC is the same as retail but the RC version will expire shortly.

yes i gathered that, i haven't been living under a rock.
I was asking did they include anything extra in the Full version, as opposed to the RC, from someone that is using it
still have not got my email saying they will ship my windows 7

I am super under whelmed by Windows 7
Anyone else notice that the price for windows has come down dramatically?? I remember buying 1.0 for almost $1500 back in the day, and 3.1 was almost $850.00 - With the pricing of windows nowadays there is almost no point in considering using a pirate

I don't know why anyone would want to pirate an OS, you're bound to run into an issue with it at some point. Fork out for the original and not worry about accidentally updating the KB3434634341 security update file.
But...

I've been using pirates all my life. Never ran into a problem.

Nowadays I'm of the opinion tha you would have to be seriously jewish to not pay for your operating system - However back in the days when the operating cost more than a HIGH end system - Windows 95, 3.1, 3.0, 2.0, 1.0, 286, 186 I say pirate - Back in those days microsot needed a tight slap off of their consumers, what they were charging was nothing short of daylight robbery - remember back then if you told people that apple would develop any form of following even Steven Jobs would of laughed at, you microsoft really did have a monopoly - even schools in the U.S.A were using PC's, this was before Steven Job's "get'em when they're young" approach - giving all edducational institutions who qualified free hardware and heavily discounted software - which they do now world wide.

Edit:

I did say ALMOST - this will change when microsoft stop charging end consumers full price for an operating system that they are essentially beta testing - or paying for the privilage of beta testing - they have been the primary O.S provider since way before they released windows 1.0 - they have no excuse, especially nowadays for shoddy/incomplete/unfunctional coding, and programs/features - they have had the mnost experience in the industry
I'm not jew... ://

I'm asian

but I'm seriously considering buying the win7 home premium...

I can see me staying on that os for a long time..

I never said you were, perhaps tight ass then???

Anyone else notice that this was the first RC/BETA version of windows that they didn't charge US$20.00 for - all the others you had to pay for the privilage of beta testing

I'm in a bit of a mix with 7 - in almost every way I am finding it superior to xp except for networking!!!! Which I for some stupid reason seem to be doing what feels like all of Australia

Are you sure your going to need ultimate? If your PC gaming then all you need Premium 64bit. Ultimate is only really good for graphics work and other stuff like that.
Hey just found this awesome program, Its called Ninite and basically you select from a list programs you want to install then it creates the program you download it and it installs everything you selected for you just hit go, Saves tonnes of time setting up a new OS. Only Windows right now though.

I don't understand. Does the Win 7 upgrade uninstall your programs or something? What is the difference between using this program to install stuff for you and keeping copies of your program installers to do it manually?
its quicker
Updates saves all your files, settings and programs, and updates it to win7.

but be prepared to leave the computer on for 15hours+.

There was an article that a fresh vista install took around 1-2 hours.

vista with a few programs and custom settings took 10-15..
yeah and why would you do an upgrade when you can clean install with the upgrade disk

Clean installes are the best

You should have read the source article.

Microsoft timed the update time and the 15-20 hour update is for a computer with 650Gb of data and 40 applications installed. It is huge.

For people with 70Gb of data and 20 applications it takes 100 minutes, 125Gb of data and 40 applications takes 160 minutes. But yeah, a clean install takes only 30 minutes.

In any case I'm going to be uninstalling a lot of unplayed games just to free up the HDD space and cut down on upgrade time, as well as having fewer potential registry etc problems.

Oh, Microsoft tech blog regarding this is at blogs.technet.com/
I have around.... *counts progams list* 56 program folders (not all programs as there are programs in the program group.

and around 400gb?
My Win 7 upgrade arrived literally a few seconds ago. I will install it tonight, while I sleep.
