Has anyone tried out the beta version yet, if so what are your thoughts and experiences with M$ latest?

Thats the exact error I got on numerous occasions and now im fine on vista so it wasn't my hardware, it was win7.

I downloaded the beta when it first came out, was to lazy to install things on it so just kept using xp.
From what i used it was good though.

Well it's in Beta so it'll all be fixed on release. Windows 7 will be the first OS i buy legitimately on release.

i wish i knew how to use linux
would make my linux testing SO much easier.

as it is, i just get Doles to tell me everything i need to know

get your mate that needs an OS and Doles together and im sure something can be worked out

agree 100%
will be my first legitimate purchase of an OS ever!
other than ubuntu of course, but that doesnt really count does it? i mean, i downloaded it for free (didnt even use up quota as it was on the internode file servers

)

Haha, Ok. Just tell him to hit this button to turn on, and this button for Firefox. You don't need to write a shell script for firefox each time you start it

windows 7 might be good for him, but it depends really. It has heaps of pre-installed drivers, so heaps of compatibility, the only driver i needed to install was the one for my wireless card. Other than that windows 7 is heaps good. But i suggest you turn off his UAC, that way he doesnt get the annoying popups for cancel or allow. And if he tries to run one program that detects drives or anything it wont ask you to run it as admin. Other than that, simple really. just tell him he may have to buy a copy come august

Hey is there anyway to get the windows 7 beta without downloading it directly from the Microsoft website? My dad is super tight on downloads so windows 7 is a bit steep but does anyone know of an alternative way to get it?

if you talk to someone really nice they might be able to send you a copy via dvd...

other than that, if you are with an ISP that have some download free file servers, they might have it, but i think that also might be illegal for them to host it...

Don't worry about it too much wii-man.
its only free till august and its a beta, so lots of things dont work at all or properly

stick with xp or vista till the release version is.....released

do you have the updated SP1?

if so, then there is nothing wrong with vista. infact it runs really bloody well.
i had win7 installed. got tired of it being a broken beta so i reinstalled vista. brilliant
