Bioshock Monopoly Project

The other week news was showing us the amazing efforts achieved by BioShock and Mass Effect fans where they created their own BioShock themed Monopoly board game. Heller politely asked me if I could print one of these themed monopoly games for the MMGN office.
I've never attempted anything like this but I have the tools to get the job done and I was up for the challenge.

and I thought some of you guys might be interested seeing how it all comes together. Image files were provided by Heller who got them off the original artist (insert link here when I find it). The files were far from perfect when looking at them from a printers point of view, but I can still work with them I just need to set it all up. So far this has been my big obstacle of this project. Also I'm aiming to get the best quality possible but at the same time not spending too much money so my boss doesn't stab me :P

Here's what I've done so far.

Thought I'd start off with the largest piece and that's the board. Without spewing out too much print jargon... I basically printed the board image on self adhesive vinyl (big sticker) and then mounted that onto 2mm thick board.

Decided to print everything on stock with a matt/satin finish for a couple of reasons one being it's easier to print on if you are after a higher quality result. The second being it seems to tie in well with the theme of it all.
I just finished the property cards today and they came out pretty nice as well. There was no need to mess around with the files, the only challenge here was here was cutting them. Since there was no bleed to cut into I can cut everything by hand so that there's no unwanted white edges.

I'll keep everyone updated as I find time to get more of this project done. So far so good..

What about game pieces? Hand-crafted from scrap metal?
That smile on that Jail spot lol~ [Derp]

Not sure if the property cards were like that there looks like there's still white edges but i'm not sure whether they're suppose to be there. :O I like the bloood splatter however, also why does it differ from kind of an aged tan to a white paper?
Looks epic :)
Nice work man, can't wait to see the finish product... when's launch date?
show me the moniez...

see what i did thar :P

Yeah not sure about that bit that's something Heller will have to source I think he's going to find some steam puck stuff to suit.

Wish I had a 3D printer then I could make my own things en.wikipedia.org/...
I was actually looking at the 3d printer yesterday, Zprinter 650 :P

But yeah, the board is fully sick
Get mini action figures...

@Guyver that is so damn awesome. I certainly owe you a bunch of beers. I can't wait to see the money [Derp]

Now I was actually going to ask you guys, game pieces what can I do. Perhaps some small die cast metal/broze figures or something.

For the houses/hotels I was thinking the easiest option would be to find a Monopoly set and spray paint the originals gold or bronze, but I'm open to suggestions for something a bit more, Rapture themed.

@Guyver I can't thank you enough for helping me make this come true, you are freaking awesome!
This is awesome. Really, really awesome.

Yay for capitalism and free markets!
This could work as a game piece www.ebay.com.au/...

But I'm broke, I can't afford such luxuries :(
This is AMAZING!!!!
This is epic! Can I borrow it? >. >
NO! [Rage]

But you can come play it when you visit in Melbourne :P

I was pretty surprised at how cheap they are, well for a a small one at least. I was assuming this kind of technology would cost a fortune. Hey did you know that they now have 3D printers that can lay down3 colours at the same time? [MOG]

Yeah something like that could work.

Question does anyone know how much money an average Monopoly game comes with? Right now I'm no sure on how much dolleryDoos I'd need to print

I think it will be part of the MMGN HQ so the next time you come to Melbourne you can play it [monkey]
According to Wikipedia there are 30 of each note in a standard deck these days. So 30 X $1 30 x $5 30 x $10 etc.
Guyver you da bawss
So, looks like I'm making a trip to Melbourne it seems..
Here's a fun fact - Hasbro states that the longest game of Monopoly ever played lasted 1,680 hours (70 days or 10 weeks or 2⅓ months)

I was just reading up about the history of Monopoly, it's actually really interesting.

The history of Monopoly can be traced back to 1904,[2] when an American woman named Elizabeth (Lizzie) J. Magie Phillips created a game through which she hoped to be able to explain the single tax theory of Henry George (it was intended to illustrate the negative aspects of concentrating land in private monopolies). Her game, The Landlord's Game, was commercially published in 1924.[3]
10 years later, in 1934, Charles Darrow presented his own version of The Landlord's Game, now called Monopoly, to Parker Brothers executives as well as to Milton Bradley. However, both game manufacturers rejected the game. Attempting to produce the game on his own, Darrow hired a friend who was a printer in order to get 500 sets to the Wanamakers Department Store in Philadelphia for the 1934 holiday season. They then made another 500 sets. Once all 1000 games had sold out, Parker Brothers reapproached Charles Darrow and struck a deal, and began selling the game under the Parker Brothers label in 1935.
In 1941, the British Secret Service had John Waddington Ltd., the licensed manufacturer of the game outside the U.S., create a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis.[4] Hidden inside these games were maps, compasses, real money, and other objects useful for escaping. They were distributed to prisoners by secret service-created fake charity groups.[5]
By the 1970s, the game's early history had been lost, and the idea that it had been created solely by Charles Darrow had become popular folklore. This was stated in the 1974 book The Monopoly Book: Strategy and Tactics of the World's Most Popular Game, by Maxine Brady, and in the instructions of the game itself.
Because of the lengthy court process and appeals, the legal status of Parker Brothers' trademarks on the game was not settled until the late 1970s. Ralph Anspach won a lawsuit over his game Anti-Monopoly on appeals in 1979, as the 9th District Court determined that the trademark Monopoly was generic, and therefore unenforceable.[6]
That's frikkin epic! I plan to steal
It from MMGN HQ :)

So EPIC. It looks so cool [Derp] [Derp] [Derp] [Derp] [Derp] [Derp]
That looks freakin sweet Guyver, got any plans to do any other games? Could be an idea to see which one is the best and see if you could make it ^_^

Also Heller, I have an interesting fact, not sure if its true, but 90% of monopoly games either end with an "earthquake" happening, or a "Rage Godzilla" coming out and destroying the board, well that's what happens with most of my games :D [MOG]
