Well there's been enough instances where we've discussed the topic of cars in the general social thread so why not have one dedicated to it.
If you've just got a new car, shopping for a new one, broke you current one, dreaming about that exotic sports car, into tuning, want to bitch about n00bs on the road and so on and so forth.

Today I went out and bough some 4000k Philips headlamp bulbs because I wanted that cleaner looking light. I went into Autobarn and grabbed a set of H4's which I assumed that were the correct size because that's what was in my last Commodore, but when we got back and my mate and I started fitting them it turns out Holden has now decided to go to the H11 sized bulb. So I had to do a mad dash back to the shop and do an exchange. Well they are fitted now and I like the look so I'll be going back to get another set of these bulbs for the fog lights.

I see an average of 2-5 Skylines a day ranging across all the models from the late 80s to late 90s. Where I live they aren't exactly rare so most of them do sell rather cheap.

That's only the GT-T model though (base line turbo).

Nice GT-R R34 will set you 50k for a good one grounded in aus.

You know how @ 5500rpm or so "VTEC" kicks in?

Well VTEC is a system that changes the camshaft to change the compression ratio of fuel and air.

In theory, there would be 2 different camshafts in a VTEC engine, each camshaft would have its own power band. Lets call camshaft 1 as 0-5500rpm, and Camshaft 2 as 5500+ (when vtec "kicks in")

Camshaft 1's power graph over laps 2's graph when at 5500rpm (same power input). But shaft 1 power band, the power dies out @ 6k rpm or so, having another shaft which produces the same power at the same speed, but has more potential above 6000+ would be handy.

So, having two camshafts (logically) in a piston is impossible, but making it able to switch to the other shaft @ 5500rpm (where the power bands of the camshafts overlap) would be perfect.

So, i will let a diagram show how VTEC changes the camshaft length.

Honda just made it short. :P

VVT = changing number of valves active, to save fuel, toyota uses this under the name VVTi

LEC = lifting the camshaft for longer so more air gets in the piston, = higher compression ratio.

Decided to hose all the brown off my car at the local car wash. After I was done cleaning I drove over to the detailing area to dry my car off and there were a couple of guys with some Jap cars. As some may have seen it's not uncommon for some Jap car owners to rag on V8s but these guys came up to me and we crapping on about cars in general for ages. Nice refreshing change :)

I would have imagined if you were to get into an argument with them it would be something like what you would see in Fast and Furious. I feel an instinct to argue with ricers when they start talking about certain things. Moreso on the topic of having a turbo pulsar.

I did a complete detail clean of my car on Saturday and noticed when I was cleaning in the boot that it wasn't lifting properly because the struts that make it lift have torn the joins off the parcel shelf where they connect with the chassis. It is torn up so bad that there is no way I could even poprivit them back into place. Probably going to have to pull that shelf apart and weld in some sort of backing plate. What it looks like is hard to explain. It isn't the first time it's started breaking away. I could get some photos.

In other news I bought some Honda Type-R stickers - just because I could.
Got mine for $10. Shocked to see that on ebay some sell for up to $100 and over!

omg I just had the most embarrassing car related incident

My steering wheel lock got stuck on the steering wheel :S in the process of getting it out I beeped a whole lot of times and people were staring. I ended up calling my friend to take a shot of it and he helped yank it out from the other end :E
