The Car Thread

40607 Views 2492 Posts Locked Social
Well there's been enough instances where we've discussed the topic of cars in the general social thread so why not have one dedicated to it.
If you've just got a new car, shopping for a new one, broke you current one, dreaming about that exotic sports car, into tuning, want to bitch about n00bs on the road and so on and so forth.

Today I went out and bough some 4000k Philips headlamp bulbs because I wanted that cleaner looking light. I went into Autobarn and grabbed a set of H4's which I assumed that were the correct size because that's what was in my last Commodore, but when we got back and my mate and I started fitting them it turns out Holden has now decided to go to the H11 sized bulb. So I had to do a mad dash back to the shop and do an exchange. Well they are fitted now and I like the look so I'll be going back to get another set of these bulbs for the fog lights.

best thing about the option of having it, is that you know that there is a way to make it do the opposite when you open the car, or at least, open the car and before you get in or even put the key in, you can wind all the windows down, negating the need for the windows to be left open a crack.

yeah but the car will still be hot inside, and what if you have a dog in the car. you cant leave the windows shut.

well... if you were rich... and... had a real good cover.... and had money.... and could buy a new lexus if it got scratched. HEY shut up if i was freakin rich id put my puppy in my car *folds arms*

I went 4 wheel driving up the beach with a guy who had a brand new lexus v8 (basically landcruiser) it had scratches all over the side of it and everything he was just like meh you can tell it gets used

(The scratches got there on the tracks to get to the beach)
I just wouldn't buy a shiny 4wd for the fact that I'd get all devo if it got scratched.

exactly why id never get a brand new car. my cars pain was screwed when i got it so i dont notice any new scratches unless theyre really obvious. i dont wanna be like scott :P he gets mad when something touches his car.

It's a guy thing, I go skitzoid if someone hits my car due t carelessness. I understand accidents happen but if bump, dent, scratch, hit etc a car just because you weren't paying attention you deserve at least a decent dose of verbal abuse :P

Anyway I wouldn't mind having a new car for a change, the new cars I catually like are kinda out of my price range :(

well no, its because he got a car in good condition. i would care too but he gets really upset about it when there isnt really anything he can do. id get pissed but i wouldnt rage about it. i discovered someone backed into my car with a tow ball *i think* pushed in a bit of my plastic grill (which scott bent back into place so it looks sorta normal) and scratched off the paint till its gone white to the base layer, above and below the damaged grill, i was angry but whats done is done. no use getting depressed about it.
I have a VR commodore that needs lots of parts.... i found another VR commodore that needs a gearbox and is full of rust for $700.... im going to have two cars soon then turn them into one and a half :P

Put two engines in it [Derp]

double up V12!!!

I'd strip down an engine and rebuild it, party for the fun of it, but also to make sure its good so you get best performance, not that it'll really be an issue, I know a guy whos VP has done 700,000+ and is still going, only problem is the structure is rusting away now because he lives near the coast and doesn't use a garage, drivetrain keeps on chugging though.
I sadly got my first speeding fine today but geez they make you pay abit for only a couple of kms over, ohh it was only one street away from my house too. :'@
sucks heaps right.
was it from a multanova or did you get pulled over?

Been pulled over twice and both times I said I was late for work at maccas and got let go.
Cops love their discount too much [Shifty]
Nah not pulled over it must have been one of those camera cars but between the streets I was caught is strange cause its a slow corner I don't usually go fast at all there nor when there are cars parked on the side of the road.
Apparently we're getting 150 new speed cameras per year in SA alone (I assume these include car-mounted ones, as they're all the rage now and the sneakiest most bastardly act ever). Meanwhile there are 3 cops in the nightclub district on a Saturday night. Outrageous! [Rage]
We live in the land of the speed cameras and it's sad. I actully find it refreshing getting pulled over by a cop, at someone is doing some work.

We do I hardly see Police officers on the street now just these stupid speed cameras and they could at least put the speed cameras in areas where dangerous collisions happen not at the bottom of a slight hill past a round about where its easy to go over the speed limit there.

I've never ever seen a crash there and I've been living there my whole life it is typical revenue raising, fair enough I went over the limit but it's not in a dangerous area where you see idiots on the road all the time.

I'm just disappointed in myself and the whole system, improvement can and should be made in dangerous areas.
There's so many cameras now it's starting to get dangerous, people spend more times looking at their speedo than the actual road. Driving through the tunnel and over the Westgate bridge used to nice drive(in non peak hour at least) but these days it's a painful game of "watch the speedo". You have the choice of riding your brakes or sitting in a lower gear chewing away fuel. This kills the fun of driving over the Westgate bridge and admiring the beautifully lit up city below.
That's a very good point Guyver, I tend to feel the same when driving usually my main focus is the speedo even though I did just get a fine. I spend countless times having to just watch the speedo instead of times where my awareness must be cars and people around me, I can drive at a safe speed without looking at my speedo but when I do look I tend to be just over the limit but my full awareness is the surroundings of me and if something was to go wrong I feel that I could prevent it being serious without being worried of looking at the speedo and that could be where I miss a kid riding his bike out of a drive way or something like that.

Very true. I suspect there have been/will be heaps of minor accidents or close calls due to people staring at their speedo the whole time not wanting to be raped for going 4ks over the limit -_-
We should get a free HUD kits if they keep trying to snipe us when we are a couple of K's over, they rake in enough money to do so.
