The old thread has reached 80 pages, and has been filled with many builds that the very helpful members of MyFrag have all contributed too.
IMPORTANT
However a problem with people changing the limit on prices, asking people to put together build estimates without knowing the costs, and people generally not knowing what they are talking about has occurred. It is acknowledged that build prices do change due to everyday life, however the number of people that have been changing the price (from 3000 in some cases to 1000...) is getting out of hand. Therefore i have created this form:

never shopped through MSY but what do they actually do to make them shitheads? I's assume that the only reason people would shop there if MSY were shitheads is if they were cheaper. Have never even gone on the site so i do not know

Yeah, they generally are the cheapest.
If other shops try to sell an item as cheap as MSY do, MSY threaten to not stock that item so the distributers make the other shops sell at normal prices so MSY don't lost customers because they move so much product through them.
It's a vicious cycle.

Just moved my old PC into my room because my laptop was given back to the school (cause ive left school :) )

Anyways my current specs are -

# Processor Intel Core 2 duo E6550
# CPU 2.3GHz
# RAM 4GB
# Hard Drive 300gb HDD
# Operating system Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit)
# Graphics Radeon x1300/x1550

Im in need of a small upgrade.. something that can help me out with the speed and some better graphics. atm the speed is shitting me. Im thinking of upgrading hardrives and also buying another stick of ram if i can.

Edit - I'll also add that its very ****ing loud. [Rage]

Vile, don't worry about the ram. Find out what motherboard you are using and make sure it is compatible with pci-e graphics cards.
If it is then that is all you should worry about upgrading on that old system.

Hey guys going to build myself a new rig soon nuff(waiting on tax money). The main things I wanted to sort out now was the case, mobo, power supply and cooling. Power supply and cooling i know nothing about, don't care much about what ones aslong as they work. Mobo i don't mind splurging on, aslong as it gives good possibilty for future upgrades.. I can worry about graph card. memory, processor and ram later depending on budget but I wanna sort that out now.

Tried to look myself for cases but confused the hell out of me. I ended up just looking through all the ones with pretty colours. It looks like some already have cooling and PSU in them and i am just generally confused. I would like a case that looks awesome(LED's, maybe a window panel) but spec wise i don't know what i'm meant to be looking for. I just want help with the above mentioned now because i really don't know what is needed.

Well the mobo is the one i don't mind splurging on, aslong as it will last me a few years of upgrades. The case and PSU i don't neccesarily mind the price, but i guess the cheapest that'll work and looks decent(not plain). Thanks in advance =D.

I'm also looking at going to LAN.

My build that I'm looking at now has an Antec Nine Hundred. Does it have good portability?

E - It seems you were talking about something different.

I meant a group where a few people get together at a local area, town hall/etc and play LAN games together. Thats why I wanted portability. Now I feel like a ****ing retard.

Just realised i'm not very specific in what I was asking for with the case. If someone can point me in the direction of a mobo as mentioned above that would be great. If you don't understand what kinda case/psu i want then if you could give me some tips/hints on what i'm looking for to suit the mobo. Thanks again =D

do you want a case that will make the hillbilly next door thing a ufo is in your house? or a case that has more lights than an ectasy filled rave party? sleek and sexy like a ninja or so big that it makes people think "that guys junk must be HUGE"?

ultimately i'd like a sleek case with possibly a few of the rave LED stuff to make it look fancy. the window isn't necessary but i plan to have this build for many years to come and will undergo a fair amount of pimping in its time. If the window will help with the pimping without adding ridiculous price, i want it =D.

i don't necessarily want that one as the top looks weird, but that sort of style with the LED's and window.

something like that? theyre an amazing case the 690's. you can pimp it out with stuff like cold cathodes and led fans if you want. also allows for watercooling and other fancy shit. just look at guyvers build.

right then. That would mean not doing i7 aswell? Really have no idea what i'm doing [MOG].

Is it worth the difference between i5 and i7? Cause I don't want to have to be building another PC or changing mobo in less than a few years if the 1366 is what most new tech is going to be made on. I am not educated in these matters though so i'll look into 1155 now [MOG]
E: ignore comment above about i7. Can someone recommend me a good mobo? Also are any of these mobos capable of over 8 gb ram? ram and graphics card will be chosen depending on budget but i would love to upgrade later

I'm planning on upgrading my pc and need a bit of help choosing some things, been racking my brain and can't decide yet.

Here is what I have decided on what i want so far, will be mainly used for gaming.

i5 2500k
Patriot Gamer2 DDR3 1333 4Gx2 (or go gskill?)
2x1 gb 6950 crossfire or better off going single 2gb card instead of xfiring that?
case, anything that does the job, don't care how it looks
psu what will i need if i xfire or just go a single?
mobo depending on if i xfire or not

Don't want to spend crazy amounts of $$$ case, long as it does the job. Sort of have a budget but not really lol, so throw me some help please :D
