The old thread has reached 80 pages, and has been filled with many builds that the very helpful members of MyFrag have all contributed too.
IMPORTANT
However a problem with people changing the limit on prices, asking people to put together build estimates without knowing the costs, and people generally not knowing what they are talking about has occurred. It is acknowledged that build prices do change due to everyday life, however the number of people that have been changing the price (from 3000 in some cases to 1000...) is getting out of hand. Therefore i have created this form:

It's probably time I upgrade my PC..

My PC specs are,
OS Version: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad-Core Processor, AMD64, 2.6ghz Family 16 Model 2 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 4093 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, 512 Mb
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., GA-MA78G-DS3HP

Not exactly sure what to update though.. I'd probably want to upgrade it to the point where I can run Battlefield 3 perfectly fine.. I have around $300 to spend..?

Any ideas?! :S

Program youre using gonna use that GPU? For 3D rendering I would go 2011 and a shitload of RAM. Most don't use tge GPU so you make it a CPU/RAM powerhouse.

I'm probably putting most of its use onto high subdivisions on ZBrush then the final renderings on 3dsmax's VRay. I was also hoping to get very good performances on Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2 and future demanding games.

I think you should upgrade your CPU to a AMD Athlon II X3 445 or the Intel Xeon E3120.
But for Battlefield 3, definatly upgrade your GPU, something like the Nividia GTX 550 and above. The CPU should cost around 200$ and the GPU should be around 300$.

Definitely upgrade that gpu for bf3 first. For $300 you could get a good 6970 or so but then I have no idea what your psu is so it might not handle the bigger card.

Uhhh, my PSU is 500w, so I might just buy a new PC... Should I use anything from my current PC and put it into the new one...? Not sure if this PC has anything worth while

If your going to buy a new pc, keep the CPU and the Ram, ofc the mother board. Your graphics card is completely outdated though >.>

That depends on how much you want to spend.
A sandy bridge CPU would run rings around your phenom (note, not a phenom ii:. Pretty sure even core 2 quads ran rings around then :P

You can achieve much higher clock speeds but with a much steeper temp rise.

Sandy Bridge temps scale fairly well when adding voltage, but the Ivy Bridge jumps significantly when you start going beyond the turbo clock speeds. Water-cooling is a must.

The performance is there though when you do reach those high clocks (~5Ghz). I was considering upgrading, but it's just too pricey atm. Sandy Bridge still has a bit of life left in it, I've had no bottle-necking in my experience with the 2500k to date.

Single 560 is an insult to that case ! Get those 670's [MOG]

I will not be upgrading for a long time probably. Trying to save money and my system just does not miss a beat. Though my 570s have both been super flakey on and off. They go months perfectly then suddenly shit bricks massively. Hasn't happened since summer though so I guess thats why. Might get my cooling stand going this weekend.

Yeah, the ASUS. Nothing is watercooled at the moment. This will be my first try at watercooling and I have absolutely no idea of where to begin.

This case has a set up so I can put a triple-rad in the bottom and a dual at the top, so I'll also be doing a dual loop system for my first go as well, just to make it all that more expensive and stressful. :P
