SONY MUTEKI 7.2 Setup Issues

Hey guys, i have an issue with my new sony muteki home theater system. I am a total n00b and have no idea what to do...

I went out and bought a HDMI cable to connect my TV to the receiver.. so now the tv is connected to the receiver. i went on the menu of the receiver and selected TV and also HDMI but i am unable to output the sound from my home theater speakers...

EDIT* is that the only cable (HDMI) i need ? or do i need something

Also if using the HDMI , will i need ; Optical Digital Cord or any other audio cord as well?

what cold be wrong?

thanks guys
so let me get this straight. You have the TV outputting sound to the receiver through hdmi? Or the receiver outputting to the tv?
It should be set up so that the tv outputs to the receiver.
Just make sure that you have the hdmi plugged into the tv's hdmi OUT port and the receiver's hdmi IN port.
Without seeing it or for lack of a better description I can't really create a picture in my head of what is going on.

Thanks man for the quick reply - i am really N00B at this and confused...

The tv i have is LG 60PC1D and the back of it has one HDMI port which says hdmi/dvi in..

The home theater system has 4 hdmi ports SAT IN ; DVD IN ; BD IN ; and then finally OUT..

I purchased a hdmi cable and plugged one end into the TV (Hdmi/dvi in) and the plugged the other end into the receiver where it says OUT...

does that mean that i plugged it into the wrong port? if so which port should i connect it to in the receiver as the tv only has one hdmi port

thanks dude

ok what you have done is this, if you have a dvd player that is plugged into the receiver, you can now watch dvds from the dvd player, through the receiver, on the TV.

What you are wanting is an optical cable that plugs into the TV Optical OUT and into the receiver optical IN.

basically, you have got the sound travelling the wrong way, from receiver to tv rather than tv to receiver.
o0ooo

sweet as, thanks man, i really appreciate it
i have a slightly similar problem. I had successfully connected my sound using a optical digital cord. A few months later I suddenly lost sound and havent been able to generate any sound from the tv component. I even tried connecting the sound through the audio output ports but still cant get any sound from the tv component. Any ideas?
Is the cord badly bent? That is not very good for optical cords.
thanks for the quick reply.the code looks ok. ive tried a neighbours code but still no sound
Ok so you've eliminated the cord, do you have an alternate output device? That will tell you if it's at the source or receiving end.
I also have a similar problem I just recently bought this system a few days ago and I can't seem to have the surround back speakers working when I select the surround speakers in the rear position. the surround back speakers work when I choose the front position yet I don't understand why it isn't working when I select rear I'm using a hdmi cable from my receiver to my xbox 360 can anyone tell me how I can fix this problem or let me know if it's my xbox that is the problem maybe it's not compatible with that selection?

If they are coming through when you choose front and not rear, you may want to check your wires. with the xbox you should only have the front 2, centre and left and right surround because it doesn't put out 7.1, if the back to do work it's only the same as whats coming out the side 2. Do a speaker channel test through the amp and see if the speakers are right then
Thanks for the quick reply I took your advice and check the wires and they are all fine and in the right place I did a t.tone test with the front postion chose for the speakers and they all work and after i stoped the t.tone test they still work where as when I chose the rear position and did a t.tone test and all the speakers work except after I stop it both the sb speakers don't work but everything else does. Again im sorry I'm a complete noob at this and this is my first surround sound system I have ever purchased because i use an xbox did you mean i should only use the front 2, centre, left and right surround? and also what do you mean by it doesn't put out 7.1 does that mean the sb speakers might not work because this system is a 7.2?
What chucky means is that xbox only outputs 5.1
The .2 in your system is irrelevant as that indicates how many subs it has.
When you are in your xbox's setting, check what audio is outputting. It might be set on stereo output.
Also cycle through all the different sound options through the remote for the receiver.
I only have the stereo speakers plugged in on my home theater system so I know I have to press the 2ch button to get it to work properly.

I don't understand what you mean when you day "selecting the rear" and "selecting the front"
Oh ok I understand and yes I checked my Xbox settings and the audio is set on dolby digital 5.1 and with the reciever I have cycled through all the different sound options and it hasn't fixed the problem. quick question does all the speakers have to appear on the receiver by this I mean do they all need to light up on the screen of the receiver because on mine they all do except the sb speakers and also "LFE" always appear on the receiver when I play my Xbox I know what it means but is this a bad thing or? oh and Doyle what I mean by selecting rear or selecting the front is how you select the surround speakers option on the receiver and choose which position you want the speakers to play "front" if you have all the speakers in front like on both sides of your tv or "rear" if you have set the speakers in certain places in the room for surround sound which I have done except I can't get the sb speakers to work in the rear position =_= oh and thanks for the quick replies and advice guys really appreciated

Are you enjoying the Muteki system? I used to have one myself and loved it - don't think you can beat for the quality in that price range.
They are a pretty good system for a HTIB, i still have mine for the bedroom. I think we have the same model. I paid just over $900 about 4 years ago. only thing they don't do is decode the HD sound. Not sure if the new ones do
No sorry still have the same problem but happens more when u leave it on standby when u go turn it back on via remote the left speaker donr work . To get it workin u have to turn it off at the wall and turn iton agan At the wall and tv then the apeaker works again . Got me puzzeled . Help please ps i have my tv linked to sony .
Have you tried playing around with the different speaker set ups?
