Aliens: Colonial Marines doesn't milk the popular sci-fi franchise it's based on, according to Gearbox Software boss, Randy Pitchford.
Mr Pitchford, who headed up the disastrous but admirable attempt at making Duke Nukem Forever a good game, said that, while the development team was being honest to the source material, it wasn't afraid of mixing things up.
He said it was important to be "careful and respect the authenticity of the universe", which should definitely please fans of the Aliens series, which launched in 1979 with Ridley Scott's brilliant 'Alien'.
However, he said it was still a lot of fun adding to it, and that the game's biggest advantage is that Gearbox is settling on one specific idea, something he thinks licensed games lack.

“You know, like a lot of games based on licenses, they become kind of work-for-hire projects, just milking a franchise. But Gearbox works in other people’s spaces, because we love that space, and want to.”
Colonial marines will also stay true to the series's original thriller routes, with plenty of action and tension.

“When you think about the videogame manifestation of the Alien franchise, of course you imagine big action scenes and aliens. But you also think about the suspense, the tension, and just the thrilling moments that you get.”
