Black Ops 2 developer, Treyarch, says it plans to bring multiplayer back to basics, with its popular "Zombies" mode taking on a bigger and more competitive approach.
The developer says it plans to innovate the multiplayer, even though the current "formula" has been so successful with the Call of Duty community.
Treyarch is keen on "challenging some long held assumptions" regarding Call of Duty multiplayer, with it being "stripped back to the core". That can only mean a competitive component built from the ground up, rather than using the same engine and adding new things.
The game will also feature an overhauled Zombies mode, as well as new game modes and a fascinating 8-player co-op. Zombies looks set to get bigger maps and perhaps even a competitive element, maybe similar to the "Infection" community mode in Modern Warfare 3. Gamers can expect a full game mode, rather than a mini-game Zombies add-on.
