CryEngine 3 SDK downloaded 100,000 times

CryEngine 3, the graphics engine behind the recently released Crysis 2 was made available to the public for free just five days ago. It's already hit a casual 100,000 downloads.

The SDK was made available for free for non-commercial use, so if an indie dev does manage to strike it big they will be handing over a 20% cut of revenues.

With 100,000 downloads we expect to see at least 50,000 awesome looking indie titles by this time next year. We can only dream.

I was thinking about downloading it just to see what an engine is like... but I didn't want to clog up server space (or waste my time). Guess a couple thousand of those downloads were like that as well. [WTF]
We just started playing with Unity so I'm going to have to resist the temptation to jump onto this immediately but I'm definitely going to get a copy and play around on the weekend.

Anyone here planning to make anything? fyi you need windows and a fairly powerful pc. Download from here www.crydev.net/...
It's nice to see the industry handing out their engine for free to IndieDev's to tinker with and the 20% cut, although something to consider, is not a huge cut of profits when you consider developing for Apple, Android or WP7 takes 30% of the profits anyway.
You will have to do some research on where is best to market your game and whether or not that market site will take a cut of your profits themselves. However with site's like Desura offering a dedicated consumer base for PC games, there is the potential for indie developers to make some money, make more realistic looking games as well as play on a different platform that won't cost them up front to do so.
As with any technology or engine, it must be evaluated and fit what you are trying to achieve. No point using the engine if you are not likely to use many of it's features. [WTF]
