EA is methodically destroying gaming - Notch

Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson has hit out at one of the world's largest gaming publishers for releasing the "EA Indie Bundle" on Steam.

"EA releases an 'indie bundle'? That's not how that works, EA. Stop attempting to ruin everything, you bunch of cynical bastards," he Tweeted.

"Indies are saving gaming. EA is methodically destroying it," he added, before clarifying this his studio, Mojang, should no longer be considered indie.

The bundle in question includes: DeathSpank, DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, Gatling Gears, Shank, Shank 2 and Warp. All made by indie developers (at the time), but then published and bankrolled by the cashed-up EA.

EA is methodically destroying gaming - Notch Comments

EA is now the big evil corporation in gaming, their Origin service gives minimal to no support to indie games or developers, but i am not quite sure why Notch hates their bundle, I thought about buying the games that I wouldn't have otherwise bought, but that is mainly thanks to Steam and Valve, not EA.
As much as I dislike EA in general, there is nothing wrong with what they've done. Not everyone can make hundreds of millions and become self-sufficient off of one game like Notch did.

I actually applaud EA for adopting indie devs. While they may not have as much creative freedom as when they had no-one to answer to, they now have the better access to resources and manpower, as well as better insight to how the business side of the industry works. I've always said that the big publishers should set aside a bit of money for indie adoption and promotion, and I'm glad to see that someone is doing it. Even if it's EA,

I think the concern is they called it the "EA Indie Bundle". EA and Indie can't go together in a title. When they buy a game to publish, it's no longer indie.
I don't think it makes a difference. If EA had a sublabel for indie stuff like Fox Searchlight, then no-one would care that it's been bought by EA. I don't think there's a problem with using the EA name, and it's especially not 'destroying [gaming]'.
Notch sounds butthurt.
