While we've seen some amazing Kickstarter projects come out of Tim Schafer's sudden realisation that you can ask anyone for money, it was only a matter of time before the joy turned to tears.
Seth Westfall began a Kickstarter project for Mythic: The Story of Gods and Men, an PRG from Little Monster Productions. He claimed that the team was comprised of former Activision Blizzard developers, and for just $80,000 they could build a product to rival World of Warcraft and Skyrim. The project raised a cool $5,000 before it was canceled three days ago, with no explanation as to why. That's when some of the potential backers did some detective work.
Turns out the project was a fake. All of the artwork displayed was stolen from other sources and Little Monster Productions didn't exist outside the realm of Kickstarter, while pictures of LMP's offices were actually of another company all together. Not to mention that each of the reward tiers were a word-for-word copy of The Banner Saga's Kickstarter page. This spread like wildfire on Reddit, and it seems that LMP is coming to a close.
They did however make a final statement on the comments page:
It seems we have been subjected to false claims of ownership right to our concepts. The game itself is well in progress and is NOT a scam of any kind. Thank you for understanding. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask."
The Little Monster Productions Kickstarter account has since been deleted.
