Minecraft has taken the world by storm, but that doesn't mean Mojang have stopped caring. In fact, version 1.3 is currently on the way, merging single-player and multiplayer modes. Essentially the single-player as everyone knows it currently will become a "shell on top of multiplayer."
Why the change? With the upcoming API for modders, Mojang explained that without the merge creators would have to create two separate versions of their mode to accommodate each mode. While this means single-player will require a little more horsepower than previous versions, they are hoping to smooth that out with version 1.4
Other swanky additions include emeralds and emerald ore, the ability to write in books, the ability to buy items from villagers and an optional bonus chest that helps new players get started quicker, along with a slew of other features.
Minecraft 1.4 is expected to arrive on August 1st, with a release candidate available one week prior.
