PC running slow? It could be infected by any number of malicious viruses, but don't be so quick to blame the porn that you're about to deny all knowledge of. According to a new study, religion websites are more likely to send your anti-virus software into an uncontrollable panic.
Religious or ideological websites were found to be three times more likely to trigger a "threat" warning than those with adult content, anti-virus provider Symantec said in its Internet Security Threat Report, reports The Age.
That's a because they are often the target of drive-by attacks, which use legitimate websites to host malware.
"It is interesting to note that websites hosting adult/pornographic content are not in the top five, but ranked tenth," said Symantec.
"We hypothesise that this is because pornographic website owners already make money from the internet and, as a result, have a vested interest in keeping their sites malware-free; it's not good for repeat business."
Symantec also noted that attacks on smartphones and tablets were on the rise in 2011.
